ELIZABETH “BETTY” MCINTYRE
(née JONES)
December 16, 1937 – August 9, 2024
On August 9th at 9:40am Our mother Elizabeth passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband and family.
Elizabeth “Betty” lived a full and rich life. Despite many challenges, she fought hard right up until the end.
Betty came from Scotland with her loving husband (Alex) in 1963 with their two sons (Jim and Alex) and a bun in the oven (Elizabeth). They started their Canadian Adventure in Moose Lake Manitoba where they spent the first three years. They then moved their family south to Winnipeg. Soon after Evelyn was born completing their family. Betty and Alex resided on Pritchard Ave. for many years until all their children had moved on to start their own lives and families.
Mom and Dad moved into Willow Park housing Coop, and they resided there together for 25 years until mom went into care at Fred Douglas.
Mom was always engaged in the community, volunteering for various events, boards, and seniors’ groups, wherever she felt she could lend a hand. Her love for her family was profound, and she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.
Betty leaves to mourn and celebrate a life well lived her husband Alexander (Alex); sons, James (Jim) and Alexander (Alex) (Catherine); daughters, Elizabeth (Liz) Gryz and Evelyn Kovachik (Jim); grandchildren, Ian McIntyre (Megan), Sarah McIntyre, Samantha Gryz (Aidan), Leah Gryz (Damir), Dr. David Kovachik (Cassidy), Amelia Kovachik; and great-grandson Mason McIntyre.
Our family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. Abdullatif Haresha for his exceptional care over the years and to the wonderful staff at Fred Douglas Lodge for their kindness and compassion during Mom’s final years.
An honest woman here lies at rest,
As e’er God with Her image blest.
The friend of all, the friend of truth.
The friend of age, and guide of youth:
Few hearts like hers, with virtue warmed,
Few heads with knowledge so informed:
If there’s another world, she lives in bliss.
If there is none, she made the best of this.
-Robert Burns

I was thinking of you, Betty, this morning and decided to Google your name. It is with great sadness that I saw your passing. I want your family to know that Betty and I had many many games of Canasta at the kitchen table in Moose Lake from 1966 to 1969. We had so many laughs. Alec, I want to thank you for taking Brent and me to the train that late night. Betty I have never forgotten you.

Very few people in this world mean much to me. Aunty Betty was among the few.. Over the years she fed me, comforted me, yelled at me and clipped my ear. She was a straight shooter and I loved her.

I am greatful to have shared in a small portion of this courageous womans life. She was the meaning of strength and determination, a lesson I was blessed with. Aunty Betty will be so missed. I enjoyed our outtings for breakfasts over the last few years. I wrap each family member in a strong hug, as they navigate through this very difficult time. I am sure she is singing with the angels as I type. You are whole again Aunty. See you when I see you. To my family, you are all loved and I am here for you.
