In Loving Memory of
FLOYD CHARLES MCKINNON

August 3, 1959 – September 28, 2025

It is with great sadness and deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Floyd Charles McKinnon, who went home to be with the Lord on September 28, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of sixty-six.

Floyd was born on August 3, 1959, in Ste. Rose du Lac, Manitoba. He grew up in Wanless, Manitoba. Floyd was an exceptional child and was able to recite the poem “Twenty Froggies” before he began kindergarten. Floyd attended junior and senior high school at MBCI in The Pas. After completing his education, he relocated to Winnipeg, where he attended Red River College and graduated in 1988 with a Diploma in Electrical Technology. Floyd often shared fond memories of his time in college, where many of his classmates were hired right after graduation. Floyd was excited to begin his career, and after graduation from Red River, he accepted a position with TransAlta Utilities in Alberta. Floyd moved to Athabasca, where he trained as a Power Lineman. After working in Athabasca for several years, Floyd accepted a job in Canada’s north and moved to Inuvik Northwest Territories. Floyd regaled family back home with many exciting stories about life in the “land of the midnight sun”.  After working in Inuvik for several years, Floyd returned to Winnipeg, where he had family.

Floyd had a passion for sports, and in his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball. He was a huge football and hockey fan, he faithfully and loudly, cheered for the Blue Bombers and Winnipeg Jets. Floyd also enjoyed watching the NFL and cheering for his favourite team the New England Patriots.

Floyd treasured spending time with family and friends, a highlight for many years was coming home to spend Christmas at dad and moms’ home, in Wanless. Floyd taught the family numerous card games such as golf, we spent many raucous hours around mom and dads dining table playing golf, tens, thirty-one, five hundred bid as well as a variety of board games.  Floyd had a phenomenal memory and could easily recall names and dates with uncanny precision.  He was quite proud of the fact that he was near impossible to beat at Trivial Pursuit.

An adventurer at heart, Floyd loved travelling—especially his trips to Arizona to visit friends.

Floyd loved animals and especially cherished his loyal dog, Annie, she was his constant companion, and Floyd shared many adventures with his little Annie. Floyd enjoyed nature and going out on quad rides, exploring the outdoors, and spending peaceful time in nature.

Floyd had amazing sense of humour and a larger-than-life personality. He could easily captivate an audience with his outstanding storytelling abilities.  Floyd loved country music and classic rock. He was a superb dancer and never passed up an opportunity to two step to a good ol’ country tune!

Floyd was the oldest of six siblings and as such, he shared a profound bond of love and respect for his mother and was faithful to phone her weekly. Mom cherished those phone calls.

Floyd will be deeply missed by his mother, Irene McKinnon; his brothers and sisters, Terry (Nicole), Debbie, Vince (Heather), and Myrna (Simon); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Floyd was predeceased by his father, Charlie; his brother, Kelly; uncles, Andy and Georgie; and his nephew, Matt.

Floyd’s warmth, quick wit, generosity, laughter, sense of humor and adventurous spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Dearest, brother you are finally at peace, and free of this worlds pain and sorrow. We who are left behind take comfort in knowing we shall one day see you again.

For the Lamb at the center of the throne will be their shepherd, he will lead them to springs of living water. And God will wipe every tear from their eyes.
