BRUCE McLEAN

February 19, 1943 - May 13, 2021

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dad, husband, and grandpa, Bruce McLean.

He left us peacefully, on May 13, 2021, surrounded by family, after a long, tough battle with a tumour on his spine. It was impossibly hard to say goodbye, but we are grateful that we were able to be together in his last days and that we were blessed with such a beautiful life together.

He will be deeply missed and cherished forever by his wife, of almost 40 years, Roberta McLean; son Kevin (Elizabeth); daughter Kendall (Luke); and his beloved granddaughters, Rielle and Adelaide. There will be a big void in the lives of the many dogs who shared his love and his space on the couch.

Bruce and his sister Gail were raised mostly in Winnipeg by their parents, Elizabeth and Hector McLean.  Bruce had a long and successful career as a chartered accountant/ business executive with Intercity/ Centra Gas. He met the love of his life, Roberta, at a Canoe Club social. They married in 1982. In 1985 they welcomed their son, Kevin and completed their family with daughter, Kendall in 1987. Also in 1985, they built the family cottage in Lake of the Woods where they would make everlasting memories together with their children and friends. Once or twice a summer, when the lake conditions were just right, he’d do the “McLean Roll” into the water, which never failed to send everyone into hysterical laughter. He was an excellent “handy” man and built many projects for many households over the years.

Bruce was someone you could always count on. He was a steady, loving, witty and supportive person who deeply loved his family and friends even if outwardly showing it in “gushy” ways wasn’t really his thing. He loved watching his family grow and thrive as he encouraged them to pursue dreams of music, travel and finding the special people that would allow them to establish happy, loving lives, homes and families of their own.
His babies, Rielle and Addie were the light of his life, as their parents had always been before them.

Bruce will be missed by many and loved forever. We know that you will continue to walk alongside us as we continue this journey. We will look for you in the brightest star in the sky.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A private celebration of his life will be held when it is possible to gather. In the meantime, Bruce’s family kindly requests that his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos and/or sharing your own memories and stories using the comment section on this page.

A beautiful tribute to a much loved husband, father and grandfather.  What a treasured gift that he gave to his family.  The love in his eyes shone through i the pictorial tribute that was put together so lovingly.  He certainly left footprints on every heart he touched with his love, kindness and thoughtfulness.

Kendall and Family, I remember growing up and going over to the McLean's house. Mr. McLean had such a distinct laugh and was always so kind, just like the rest of the McLean family.  My sincere condolences go out to Roberta, Kendall and Kevin.  Amanda Slater (nee Bahuaud)

It is difficult to find the right words to express my sincere condolences to the family in the loss of a husband, father and grandparent. Nothing can really compare to the pain of losing Bruce — particularly when they were as bright, bold, generous, and kind as him. I meet Bruce when he was an executive of Centra. We had many occasions to interface professionally and personally over that period of time and I got to know him as an executive but more importantly as a person. How he handled himself in every situation demonstrated his integrity, care and respect for his colleagues and those around were clearly evident. Watching the video clearly demonstrated that. I remember those times always fondly. G. D. (Gerry) Forrest
