DONALD (DON) EDWARD MCLEAN

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Donald (Don) Edward McLean.

Don was born on October 2, 1944, the first of four children born to Edward (Ted) and Beatrice (Bea) McLean.

Don was pre-deceased by his parents; his brothers, Bob and David, sister, Betty; and his grandson Cole. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marguerite; his son, Chris (Cindy), daughter, Nikki (Oliver); two grandsons, Craig (Chantelle) and Adam; one grand-daughter, Ashley and two great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Oaklyn; and honorary son, Chad McDaniel of Phoenix, Arizona.

Don grew up in Shoal Lake, Manitoba. At the young age of 18 he started working for the Beaver Lumber Co, and was stationed in Flin Flon, MB. In 1965 he was transferred to the head office of Beaver Lumber in Winnipeg where he met his future wife, Marguerite. They were married in 1966 and promptly moved to Elkhorn, MB where Don managed the Beaver lumber yard.

In 1967, Don applied for a position as a police officer with the City of St. Boniface and started his career as a constable in September of 1967.

In 1972, amalgamation of the all the suburban police departments with the City of Winnipeg was complete and he became a member of the Winnipeg Police Service.

Don became one of the City's first dog handlers with his K-9 partner, Baron. He quickly moved up through the ranks retiring in November of 1999 as a Superintendent after serving for 33 years.

After retirement, Don embarked on another venture that he had on his bucket list and drove his big yellow school bus for 10 years.

Finally retiring for real, he and Marguerite settled in Steinbach a move they both enjoyed immensely and embraced life in the "Automobile City".

Unfortunately Don's health started to deteriorate in 2020 after a major heart attack. He suffered two strokes and had Dementia resulting in his move to Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Tuxedo Villa for the excellent care they provided during Don's stay. We knew we could relax knowing Don was in very capable and caring hands.

Respecting Don's wishes cremation has taken place.

we will miss you.
