MARGARET "PEGGY" DAUPHINAIS

(née McLellan)

August 24, 1952 – March 17, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Margaret "Peggy" Dauphinais (née McLellan) on March 17, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Peggy passed peacefully at home, surrounded by her loved ones.

She leaves to mourn her husband, Doug; her daughters, Charlene (Jayson), Jeanette (Andrew), and Desiree; her grandchildren, Taylor, Emily, Jazzmin, Joshua, Makenna, Kara, Katie, Alyssa, and Mariah; her great-grandchildren, Madison, Oakland, Xander, and Noella; her sister, Carol; along with many nieces and nephews.

She has been reunited with her parents, William Stuart and Jean McLellan; in-laws, Ida and Art Dauphinais; her beloved sisters, Trudie and Shirley; her brother, Stuart; her children, Ronnie and Shari; her niece, Roxanne; and nephew, Terry.

Peggy was born in Toronto, Ontario, on August 24, 1952, where she spent most of her youth and early adulthood, with the exception of three years spent in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, as a baby.

Her father lovingly referred to her as "Winnipegosis," a fitting nickname as she eventually moved to and stayed in Winnipeg, Manitoba. In 1986, in Ridgeville, Manitoba, fate brought Peggy a man who would become the love of her life, Doug Dauphinais. Peggy invited Doug to a party she was hosting, and the rest, as they say, is history. The two spent 38 wonderful years together raising their daughters, dogs, and watching their grandchildren grow. The pair took on life's challenges together. After many years of Peggy taking care of the household, when she fell ill and could no longer take on the task, Doug didn't miss a beat, standing by her side and taking care of her and the home until her passing. To quote her granddaughter Taylor, "I never knew what unconditional love really was until I saw Papa take care of Nana."

Peggy was a woman of service, both to her family and her career at Woolco, which later became Walmart. It was there that Peggy made many friends who would come to her house for Christmas parties and special events before her retirement in 2017. One of the best connections Peggy made there was with her best friend, Ray Blackham. The pair were inseparable until Ray's passing some years ago.

Peggy had a distinct calmness about herself, and despite any upsets life threw her way, she maintained her positive outlook for her girls. With her unwavering support, her girls went on to live their lives, raising families of their own, exploring the world, and pursuing different career paths, each becoming a success story largely due to her strength and support.

Some highlights of her years were her trips to Las Vegas, Grand Forks, and Shooting Star Casino with her daughters, Charlene and Jeanette; visiting her daughter and grandchildren in Kentucky; and her many trips to South Beach Casino with Charlene.

After retirement, being a selfless person, she cared for an elderly woman named Dorothy, keeping her company between family visits at her nursing home. Peggy brought Dorothy comfort in her final years, as she had done her whole life with countless others.

To all who knew and loved her, there will be an empty space where so much love and kindness naturally flowed. But the memories of her will remain through those who loved her.

A celebration of life will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, in Ridgeville, Manitoba. A video tribute, food, and refreshments will be provided. The camp will be open from Friday, August 22, to Sunday, August 24, for those who wish to camp. For all who wish to attend, please contact one of her daughters (Charlene, Jeanette, or Desiree) for details.

Peggy’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories in the comment section on this page.

As Doug navigates this heartbreaking loss, we want to help ease the burden of funeral expenses and the medical costs from Peggy’s long battle. Any contribution, no matter the size, would mean the world during this difficult time.

Thank you for your love, support, and generosity. Let’s come together to honor Peggy’s memory and support Doug as he grieves the love of his life. We set up a go fund me to help with this. You can locate it under Peggy McLellan.
