Marilyn was born on March 2, 1941 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, the middle daughter of three sisters. She attended various schools until her Grade 12 graduation from Churchill High School. After high school, she worked for a year at Eaton’s before entering into training for nursing at Health Sciences Center, Winnipeg. She lived in residence at HSC while training for 3 years and graduated in 1962.
In 1963, she married Ken Gee and daughters Carol and Kathryn were born.
When Mom graduated in 1962, she became a paediatric nurse at the Children's Hospital and worked in many areas. Her final area of interest was in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) and taught the first program of NICU at Children's Hospital.
In 1988, Mom took night classes at the University of Manitoba and earned her Arts degree while still working at Children's Hospital.
She then went to work at the St Boniface Hospital NICU and worked there until her retirement in 2000.
In 1985, Mom married Geoff McMullan in the backyard of their home on Ainsworth Place. She and Geoff spent many years together entertaining in their home, travelling to Europe, Mexico, Cruising to Alaska and the Caribbean and travelling all over the USA and Canada. They enjoyed billeting players of the Winnipeg Goldeyes Baseball Team for many years. Together they shared a passion for bowling, coaching, and volunteering for Manitoba 5 Pin and the Master Bowlers Association.
Mom committed so much of her life to the sport of 5 Pin bowling. It truly was her passion.
Coaching, mentoring, and bowling for 40 years. During this time she also held league executive positions: President, Vice President, Secretary and was Tournament Chair for over 30 years.
In May 2025, Mom was so proud to receive the Canadian 5 Pin Lifetime Achievement Award.
For over 20 years she was involved in organizing the bi-annual Churchill High School breakfast which allowed so many friends and graduates to remain in contact.
For 25 years Mom was also involved with the Monday Morning NICU Retirement Breakfast Group.
Mom’s loves also included: dancing, singing, knitting, sewing and baking (amazing cherry pies were her specialty!!), golf, and supporting the local Manitoba curling teams. She also was a big fan of the Winnipeg Jets and the Blue Bombers. Mom had a knack for being meticulously organized and always on time for any event!
The family would like to thank the staff at HSC Emergency for their kindness and compassion and to Dr. Goldenberg and Mona at the Victoria Hospital Cancer Care for their kindness and support throughout Mom’s Cancer journey.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life to be held from 2:00pm - 4:00pm on Sunday, September 21, 2025 at the Deer Lodge Community Centre, 323 Bruce Ave, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers the family would suggest donations to the Winnipeg Humane Society or to CancerCare Manitoba in Marilyns honour.
Marilyn’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Marilyn became a good friend when we met at Churchill High school. We remained friends until her sudden death in July.
I am so very grateful that she took it upon herself to form the twice a year breakfast gatherings for the alumni of the first three graduating classes of Churchill High.
My condolences to her family and to Gord Harris, another alumnus.
We will carry on with the breakfasts even though we are a small number of almost lifelong friends now.

I'm so sorry to Marilyn's family. Carol and I went to HS together and not long after graduation, Marilyn and I became classmates in Psych stats! Nightmare class but she helped me get through it and to this day it remains one of my greatest achievements...so thank you Marilyn for your encouragement all those years ago. And you raised two very wonderful daughters who are pretty cool in high school but beyond that became amazing human beings. Till we meet again, just know that you will be sorely missed by a great many people..

Although we were separated by distance I loved my Grandma sooooo much! I cherish my memories growing up and getting to spend a week every summer with her. She took us everywhere, the childrens museum, the forks, goldeyes games, rainbow stage, festivals in the parks. Grandma was one of the strongest people I know and really had a big part shaping who I am today. I can hear her saying "don't borrow trouble Amy" teaching me not to worry about things we can't control. I also have a memory of her us crossing a busy street in Winnipeg one time, and being nervous about the traffic whizzing by. Her response was "don't worry Amy.... That's why cars have brakes!". I also remember during my visit one time she came home with a big patch on her eye. Asking what had happened she said "oh just a touch of plastic surgery no big deal" and proceeded to carry on, business as usual. She was not a complainer. I also remember saying one time "Grandma my elbow hurts right here"... To which she replied, well don't touch it there then! It really took a lot to rattle her, and in fact I don't think I've ever seen her rattled. Except when there was a thunderstorm. She was steadfast and confident and strong in everything she did. I can picture so clearly her eating her morning fruit salad and rye toast, doing her crossword puzzle. Sharp till the end, which suits her. I will miss her so so much. My heart is with my Winnipeg family during this time.

I was deaply saddenend to learn of Marilyn's sudden passing. For almost 20 years she was the driving force behind the bi-annual breakfast of Churchill High scool graduates. She organized the event shortly after the 50th anniversary of Churchill high in order to keep in touch with the many friends and graduates as they dispersed all over the world, With her meticulous record keeping she soon amassed a wealth of information on who was doing what, and where as well as those who had passed before us. Never for a moment did it occur to anyone that she would join the ranks of the former group so soon. Her tireless dedication to her task has left us with a wealth of photos and information along with the requisit breakfast photo albums and guest book from each year. She will be dearly missed, not ony for her work with the group, but for her incredible personality, amazing memory, hugs at breakfast and her love for the Blue Bombers. Rest in peace Marilyn.

We lost a very special lady on Tues - the BEST! I am heartbroken 💔 I can only describe Marilyn as being a second Mom to me. She always asked me to join in many family functions for well over 30 years! Unconditionally - her door was always open. We have been fortunate that Carol shared her with us always! Many laughs together especially when we golfed and both landed in the beach together on EVERY hole one summer not long ago. 😂 I am so very fortunate to have shared many birthday gatherings with Carol and of course Marilyn would always make my favourite cupcake! She even shared the same birthdate with my youngest daughter! Christmas dinner was always so memorable. Pies, cupcakes and so many yummy meals - Oh and the best chicken livers I have ever had!
A genuine friendship that I miss already so very much. Marilyn I will forever cherish your last hug with me 💔🥲 Rest in peace with no pain and please give Geoff, Jake, Darcy and Ed a snuggle from all of us. 😇

Getting to know Marilyn was a pleasure and I felt lucky to even have known her for a view short years. She was a good listener and was genuinely interested in hearing my babble. I loved that we talked like we were the same age. I will miss you Marilyn. Your love will shine through both your girls and the lives youve touched. I'm sure you will be heading up some bowling league and nursing some babies in heaven. Until we meet again~Enjoy being pain free♥️♥️

Oh my Marilyn, you always made time for a coffee or lunch with a smile and a "lets get out the calendar and set a date"! Our MTC nights were the highlight of my month and let me be a
part of the love you shared with us girls who sat together and shared the show.
You made it happen!! Thanks for our last visit where you shared your fabulous European River cruise adventures with Cam and I over a coffee together and ignited our desire to do the same in the near future. The sparkle in your eyes and your love of travel with your daughters and friends was infectious. Your place in my life is treasured and will live with me forever.
love you,
Jan
