Jeffrey Meek

JEFFREY "JEFF" WALTER JOSEPH MEEK
June 11, 1964 – May 1, 2025
On the evening of May 1, 2025 with faith in his heart Jeff passed away to join his loved ones who have gone before him. He was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Florence & Walter Carswell; paternal grandparents, Audrey & Sidney Meek; and his much loved mother Diane in 2002, a loss that he always carried.
Left to mourn Jeff’s passing is his father Joe; sister Stacey (Vic); nephew Hudson; aunts, Cindy (Leo) and Linda (Dick); daughters, Jessica (Steven) and Sydney (Seth); granddaughter Everly; cousins and friends.
Jeff spent his early childhood growing up on a small acreage in Arborg, Manitoba. Years there were spent riding horses, playing in the yard and even having the unique experience of a pet deer he named Bimbo that lived in the house.
His parents decided to move to the city and settled in Charleswood where Jeff attended Dieppe Elementary School until Grade 8. From there he attended Sanford High School where his parents knew the principal and figured it would keep him out of any potential teenage trouble.
Many friendships were made in the country and a good time could always be found every weekend.
Jeff enjoyed anything fast; cars, boats, snowmobiles, rides and motorcycles. He always had to have the best lawn mower and snow blower; and he loved his tools. He enjoyed weight lifting, being on top of current events and always knew the upcoming weather.
He was an avid sports fan. He particularly loved the Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg Blue Bombers and NASCAR racing. He attended two races in Kansas City and toured the Daytona Speedway. He enjoyed day trips to the states specifically to stores like Menards and Target, weekends at Falcon Lake and trips to Florida.
Summers were spent at the family cabin at Falcon Lake where Jeff worked for many seasons, growing up family vacations were spent in Florida each year and Sundays throughout the year were always meant for family dinners either at “Ma & Pa’s” in Domain, Manitoba or at home in Winnipeg. Ma and Pa were the shortened version of Grandma and Grandpa that Jeff gave to his maternal grandparents.
Always someone interested in fixing and building, it was no surprise that he made a career for himself at Kitchen Craft/Master Craft Canada building cabinets.
Jeff loved to drive with his music loud and his hat on backwards. He was a kid at heart. He loved the feeling of the warm sun on his face, always enjoyed a can of diet root beer, and loved a Jeanne’s cake for his birthday.
He took pride in his vehicles and made many trips to the Chamois to keep his vehicles clean. He loved holiday traditions like Auntie Cindy’s homemade eggnog, watching the Ten Commandments at Easter and making sure that his daughters had a stocking filled full every Christmas with an orange in the toe.
He was so proud when he recently became a grandfather to Everly. He was excited to watch her grow. Now he will be her very special guardian angel watching over her.
Jeff was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was only 18 months old. Doctors informed his parents that he would be lucky to live to his mid 40s. But he was a fighter and determined not to let the disease define him. It is difficult to imagine what it’s like for someone to live with daily injections and blood sugar monitoring. It wasn’t fair that he had to live his entire life with the disease. The last four years were a struggle with his health issues and no one faced each day braver or stronger than Jeff. We are in awe of his resilience.
Jeff was loved and will be incredibly missed. He had a good sense of humour and a gentle spirit. And we will miss his smile.
A celebration of Jeff’s life will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest at the Holy Angel Mausoleum.
“In somber silence,
Gathered here we stand,
To bid farewell with reverence,
Hand in hand,
Though tears may fall,
Like gentle morning rain,
Our love for you,
Shall evermore remain,
In memories woven,
Your spirit takes flight,
Rest now dear one,
In eternal light.”

I still can't believe Jeff is gone. Nothing stopped him. Over and over again he always bounced back.
I hope he's tearing it up in heaven.
And in his honour, we live our best lives here.
I'm deeply saddened for this loss. I will truly miss Jeff.
