ALLAN ALEXANDER MELNYCHUK

Our family is devastated to announce the untimely and sudden passing of Allan Melnychuk on Friday, Jan 1, 2021 at the age of 60.

Al was born in Vita, MB on Aug 25, 1960 to Alex and Elsie Melnychuk.

Al will be tremendously missed by his wife Sue Beck and his children: Tony Melnychuk (Katie), Alex Melnychuk (Sean), Tabatha Anderson and grandchildren (Katarina, Shannon, Sharon) Christine Kennedy, and Destiny Beck (Anthony)

Also mourning his passing are his mother Elsie Melnychuk; sister Betty Balharry; brother Gene Melnychuk (Debbie); Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, in-laws, Bill and Eli Beck, Tom Beck, and numerous friends. Al was predeceased by his Dad Alex; Grandma Wasylka Melnychuk; Grandpa Konstantine Melnychuk; Baba Mary Kizuik; and Grandpa Mike Kizuik.

Al worked at Plygem / Mitten Vinyl as an Insides Sales / Customer Service Representative at the time of his passing. He didn't consider it being at work, but being with his work family. He made valuable friendships and will be missed.

Al was a good man with a heart of gold. He was kind, passionate, and had a smile that would brighten a room. He was quick with witty phrases or sharp comebacks for any occasion, but also quick to lend a hand to anyone in need. He was an excellent husband to Sue, with whom he enjoyed watching Bombers and Jets games, always with their family dog Roxi on his lap. On game day they would all dress accordingly, including Roxi in her jersey and Al double fisting Jet's glasses - one with a beer and the other with a shot. Go Jets Go!

Al's house in Warren was our weekend getaway from the City. There he built tire forts for Tony and Alex, and a tree house for the all kids to play in. The kids took full advantage of this tree house when they were in trouble because that’s where they would run to hide. Al also built the kids an ice rink every winter, kids from all over the neighborhood would come to the rink to skate and play hockey.  He taught Destiny how to ride a bike and played with the kids in the yard on the swings and slide. He spent many afternoons with his neighbors and close friends Peter Vaughan and Mark Romanchuck.  He maintained a garden and built many memories as a family that will never be forgotten

He loved tinkering and partying in one of his garages, rain or shine. Al loved his classic rock music and listening to his collection of vinyl albums on his turntable. Al started his brother Gene on the same path with his first album "Lynx" which started their brotherly music bond. He collected anything Led Zeppelin, picture discs, and rock literature. With his tight natural curly locks that he held near and dear and his extensive collection of rock tees, Al could easily be mistaken for a rock star himself! Not only did he love classic rock himself but he is a big part of the reason why Tony and Alex listen to that genre of music to this day, the 3 of them shared that passion together.

Another passion of Al's was hitting up all the garage sales with Sue and Destiny. He participated in the town garage sale annually and cherished the time chatting with everyone involved and anyone who stopped by.  They would go out and about in the country collecting keepsakes or go "scooting" around the city on their electric scooters, all while avoiding being chased by the neighborhood dogs. They piled up the scooters sky-high and brought everything home to put the items for sale on their E-Bay website. He loved popping into Gene and Deb's to see what treasures he could scout from their garage sales too. Al loved to re-purpose anything that he came across. Yes, he was a collector! Something he stashed away years ago would surely have a new use one day!

He loved to collect all hockey figures especially goalies, memorabilia, and cards. Patrick Roy was his idol. Collecting anything Colorado Avalanche bonded him with his son Tony. They went to a Jets vs Avalanche game in Avalanche Jerseys! So brave! Rest assured - Al was wearing one on his many pairs of Jets socks. It was a game Al could watch and be happy with either team winning!

Al's typical Saturday morning started with a cup of coffee with Bailey's to get his day going. He would tinker and build whatever came to mind and he never sat still long enough to drink his coffee before it got cold! (another excuse for a refill!). He always had projects on the go and was a true handyman and problem solver.

One of his pride-and-joys in his early years was a Plymouth satellite; he would spend hours at a time in one of his four garages in Warren Mb fixing and tinkering until it was perfect.  Another was his "Eddie

Bauer,” complete with dual exhausts so everyone could hear and feel the rumble when he drove by. He also loved to BBQ and stay home and spend time with his Susie!

The family would like to thank St. Boniface Hospital for taking great care of Al when he was diagnosed on Christmas Eve. We would also like to thank the staff at HSC PACU and G5 for taking care of Al and making sure he was as comfortable as possible on Dec 31st after his biopsy until his passing on Jan 1st and also, everyone who has reached out during this terrible time. Though we are blessed that Al’s illness was brief and his suffering was not prolonged, his passing came decades too soon and we will cherish his memory forever.

A Note from His Loving Wife

He always said to Sue “we will get through this together Huni, through thick and thin!" Well, here we are Huni, 18 years later and I having to say so-long, but never goodbye. You will be with me forever.

Forever in my heart! You are my best friend and my soul mate. You are so incredible, so perfect, so right... you've touched my heart and I will never be the same again! You are home now just as you wanted to be! Rest in peace my love, till we meet again! I miss you now and will every day!

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of life will be held at a later date, when we are safely able to come together. Al’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above.
