VINCENT “VINCE” MENARD

April 23, 1949 – August 18, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather Vincent Menard on Aug 18, 2024 at the age of 75.

Vince will deeply be missed by his family. Vince is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Catharina; his daughter Colleen (Jim) and son Philip (Lindsay); his grandchildren, Jaden, Josh and Noah; brother Rosaire (Judy); brother-in-laws Adrian (Beverly), Rudy, Albert (Julie), Jake (Martha), and Richard (Jennifer); as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Vince was predeceased by his father (Jean); mother (Andeole); father-in-law (Rudolph); mother-in-laws (Agatha and Mina); sisters-in-laws (Lorraine and Brenda); and brother-in-law (William).

Vince was born on April 23, 1949 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He grew up on the family farm in Fannystelle, Manitoba. At the age of 18 he moved to Winnipeg for work while traveling back and forth to help on the farm. The following year, he met the love of his life Catharina. They dated for 2 1/2 years before marrying on June 25, 1971. They welcomed 2 children, Colleen in 1973 and Phillip in 1978.

At the age of 26, Vince found a job at Ladco/Lakewood Agencies where he dedicated his time and effort for the next 43 years until his retirement at the age of 69. He enjoyed his work where he built many strong relationships and lifetime friendships.

Vince loved traveling especially in the mountains. He enjoyed camping, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Vince always reminisced about the boys’ trips to Turtle River, the road trips to British Columbia, and time with family in Holland and Hawaii.

Vince was passionate about woodworking. He had every tool needed to get the job done. He was meticulous in his designs and projects and took great pride in solving problems and developing creative solutions. Every project needed to be just perfect. Over the decades, he designed and hand-built many pieces of furniture, decor and even a new kitchen. Vince knew how to fix anything - if he didn’t he would figure it out. He was always willing to lend a hand and would take the time to teach others some of his many talents.

Vince was very proud of his backyard paradise and swimming pool at their home in St. Norbert. He enjoyed spending time in the yard with the kids and hosting family gatherings.

Vince always looked forward to spending time with family. He loved family dinners, visiting with family from near or far, spending time together on holidays especially watching his children or grandchildren open their presents on birthdays or at Christmas. He also enjoyed casual gatherings and playing canasta helping the guys team win. More importantly, he loved the company, the conversations, and the laughs.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all the doctors and staff who cared for Vince over the years at Cancer Care Manitoba (Health Science Centre and Victoria General Hospital). They would also like to thank Dr. L. Hilderman for all of her care and the staff of the Palliative Care Program.

A celebration of Vince’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at 603 Wellington Crescent (Unitarian Church).

In lieu of flowers, donations in Vince’s memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or a charity of your choice.

Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute to Vince. As long-time neighbors, we have been very fortunate to enjoy the beauty of Vince and Catherina’s front yard gardens. Vince’s smile, waves and chats will be missed but never forgotten. We send Catherina and her entire family our deepest condolences.

My thoughts and prayers are with each and everyone of VInce's family today.

VInce, a cousin, a neighbour and childhood playmate especially to my sister was always kind and considerate. How I recall his rafts in the ditches as the spring water flowed to allow him some good times. They played cowboys for hours and he had also made his own vehicle on which he and my sister traveled the back roads. Treasure the many memories for he will forever remain in yiur hearts.

Vince always made you feel at home when I came over to visit. We spent time talking, laughing, and playing canasta. He often reminisced about the trip to Hawaii with his family. He talked about what a great time he had , how beautiful Hawaii is, and how he would of liked to go back. Vince was a very humble person , proud of what he had accomplished through out his life . His family was near and dear to his heart. He would do anything for them. I will certainly miss the little chuckles when I give him the obscured wave after the face time conversations. I admire my sister Rina and the rest of his family for caring and support which gave him the strength to help him battle this disease. I will certainly miss him.

Vince was a friend, brother in law but most of all a Brother. He was the sweetest, kindest person I ever met. When we moved to MB in 2008, in a time of despair Vince came out on his birthday to rescue me out of a ditch. He also helped tremendously with the house reno. Since then we have been there for each other in several projects, always learning from one another. He will be dearly missed. We will always love you.

I remember Vince always called my son Kyl, smiley when he was a baby. Kyle always smiles lots.
