RICHARD DAVID MEYER

July 26, 1936 – September 3, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard David Meyer with his wife by his side on September 3, 2025 at the Victoria General Hospital at the age of 89.

Richard is survived by the love of his life Lorraine; daughter Melanie; granddaughter Haley (Dylan); and great granddaughter Olive.

Also, mourning his loss are his sister Dorothy; nieces, Kim, Sydney (Petros), Macey & Wylie; nephew Aaron (Bobbi); nieces, Sharon (Derek), Karen & her son Tyrese; brother-in law David (Lynn); niece Shannon (Jef); and nephew Garrett (Sherry) & their son Invictus.

Richard was born in Beaver Flat, Sk. After receiving his education, he obtained his Class 1 driver’s license and hauled petroleum products for Trapp’s Transport in Balcarres. Richard played first base for the Balcarres Braves. He also enjoyed playing hockey and played center for the Balcarres Broncs.

In the fall of 1973, Richard moved his family to Winnipeg. It was there that he became a long haul driver, which took him to various destinations throughout Canada and the USA. Over his 42 year career working in the transportation industry, he was recognized to have driven over 1 million miles.

In retirement, Richard & Lorraine spent close to 20 years at their winter home in Apache Junction, AZ. It was there that Richard became involved in the Golden Vista Men’s Billiards Team where he was a part of weekly league play at various Resorts in the east valley. He also became a “champ” in tournaments played at Golden Vista.

Richard will be Forever In Our Hearts.

DO NOT STAND BY

MY GRAVE AND WEEP

Do not stand

By my grave, and weep,

I am not there,

I do not sleep-

I am the thousand winds that blow,

I am the diamond glints in snow,

I am the sunlight on ripened grain,

I am the gentle, autumn rain,

As you awake with morning’s hush,

I am the swift, up-flinging rush

Of quiet birds in circling flight,

I am the day transcending night.

Do not stand

By my grave, and cry-

I am not there,

I did not die.

Richard’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Mrs. Meyer, Melanie and family. My deepest sympathies to you all. This is a difficult time and I pray for God to comfort you and give you peace. I will always remember watching for Mr. Meyer to arrive from Winnipeg with Mrs. Meyer and Melanie at Granny and Papa's in Melville. He always had a big smile on his face. Thinking of you and sending my love. God bless you all, Stacey McClintock

When we were young Dick, as we knew him, was ' much' older so we looked up to him like an older brother. I rode with him to Moose Jaw refinery to get semi loads of fuel then returning to Balcarres. I felt like a hero in that big truck. He could certainly shift those 4+4 transmissions like a pro. 2 gear shifts to manipulate requiring two hands while you held the truck straight with an arm through the steering wheel. Those were the real drivers. Rest in peace Dick. You deserve a bit of quiet time off the road even though you loved to drive. Lots of good memories.

Our sympathies Lorraine and family.

Lorraine and Family, I am deeply saddened by the passing of my dear friend Dick. Have so many great memories of time spent with Dick and my family. Not only hauling petroleum, but golfing, fishing and playing hockey and baseball with him in Balcarres and just hanging out sharing many laughs. Dick was like the older brother I never had and spent many hours with Nancy and our children. I regret that Dick and I drifted apart over the years but he always remained a very dear friend to me. Dick travelled many years on the highway of life now has reached the end of the road. Rest in Peace My Friend because you deserve it. Lorraine I hope God will ease your pain and suffering and comfort you during this difficult time.May God Bless you all. Barry Trapp. btrapp@sasktel.net

We lived beside Lorraine and Richard and Lorraine for many years. Richard was a kind and gentle man. I know he really enjoyed his time in the warm weather on his trips to Arizona to get away from the cold here. He was looking forward to playing pool and was a champion at that. Richard was also a big hockey fan he loved to watch our Jets. Richard you will be missed.

Lorraine,

Richard and you were great neighbours. I alway enjoyed my driveway chats with Richard. He was a very positive person. We discussed everything from politics to the weather. Mavis joins me in wishing you the strength to cope with the difficult days ahead.
