STEPHANIE LYNN MEYER

July 13, 1992 – September 18, 2020

With heavy hearts, we announce that our beautiful, sweet, sunshine- Stephanie, passed away on September 18th, 2020 surrounded by her Mom, Dad, and sister Brooke, at the age of 28 years.

Stephanie lived happily at home with us for the first 16 years of her life. She then moved to her new home at St. Amant Centre where she found increased joy, happiness, and community in the specialized programs offered.

Stephanie had a presence and often demanded undivided attention. Nothing brought her more joy than one-on-one time reading Barney books, going on stroller rides, riding her bike, and watching us dance to music.

Stephanie was extremely visual. She loved watching us attend to the house- whether it be cooking, cutting the grass, or washing windows. She was our greatest companion to have in the home to do things with, and she provided a constant source of laughter and happiness while doing ordinary tasks. She would smile and giggle while we worked, and she voiced her displeasure when the working stopped. Her laughter was fuel for us to keep working hard because hearing her happiness was our greatest pleasure.

From very early on in Stephanie’s life, we discovered she found much joy in movement despite not being able to move herself. We spent countless hours and walked many kilometers with Stephanie in her special stroller. This provided happiness, exploration, and comfort to her. One of Stephanie’s favourite walking routes was the Bishop Grandon Parkway and St. Vital Park, which we’ve renamed “Stephanie’s Park”.

Words cannot express the love and gratitude we have for her family at St. Amant. There are so many special people that were a part of Stephanie’s world that worked tirelessly to ensure she had comfort, joy, and love in her life. The emotional support St. Amant gave us throughout the years provided reassurance through our insecurities, and as a team, we worked together to give Stephanie the best life possible. The care-team at St. Amant became an extension of our family, and our hearts bleed with- and for- our St. Amant family.

We feel so privileged to have had Stephanie in our lives, and we are honoured that her soul chose us to be her family while she was here. She taught us how to appreciate the simple pleasures in life, and she taught Brooke about bravery and strength- just like Big Sisters are supposed to.

We are so fortunate to have a world-class care-centre like St. Amant in Winnipeg that provides a home to our most fragile loved ones in our community. In honour of Stephanie’s legacy, please consider donating to the St. Amant Foundation.

Stephanie will be so dearly missed. Her beautiful smile and laughter was so contagious. I will always remember her love for Barney. It gave her pure joy. I laugh every time I think about the many times she called for us to come put on a new DVD because the old one was over lol. You are a amazing beautiful family who loved her so much. And I know she felt the same about you guys just by the way her face lit up every time she saw you or heard your voices.                   Love Stacy Domino

I was so deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Stephanie. She brought so much joy and light to all of us who were fortunate enough to have shared any time with her. I feel so fortunate that I got to work with her when she first came to St. Amant for respite one summer. Then I had the absolute joy of being her teacher for several years. I feel so lucky that I got to experience her smile, her laughter and her passion for life on a daily basis. My heart goes out to Susan, Rob and Brooke. I always enjoyed talking with Susan when she came to take Stephanie for a walk or run around “Stephanie’s Park”. We have all been touched by Stephanie’s life and love. May you be comforted by how much Stephanie has meant to so many of us. My deepest condolences. Doug George

Stephanie is part of one of my favourite teaching memories. We went on a stroller walk one early morning in Albert Beach. I thought the store was opened as saw what I thought was a person putting out the garbage. As I got closer it was a bear, Stephanie was squealing with delight as to her it was Barney. I turned on my heals and we raced on out of there. Stephanie thought it was brilliant, fast paced movement and Barney all rolled into one.  Thank you for the memories Stephanie. Xx My love and thoughts to you all. ❤ Lorna
