CATHERINE AITKEN MITCHELL

November 9, 1934 - December 18, 2023

It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Sister and friend to many, Catherine Aitken Mitchell. Born in Winnipeg on November 9th, 1934, and passed on December 18th, 2023, at the age of 89.

Catherine was predeceased by her husband, Jim Mitchell. She is survived by her three wonderful boys, who she loved so very much, Douglas (Krista), David (Shannon) and Roger (Linda). She also leaves to mourn, her four beautiful grandchildren, Kathryn, Amanda, Ashley, and Jamie along with her sister (in law), Janet (Douglas) and her two Nephews, Scott, and Mike.

In Cathy’s earlier years she worked for Ashdown Hardware and later she began her career with Revenue Canada in 1972. After 22 years of hard work and gaining many friends, she retired in 1994.

She was heavily involved with Scouts Canada for over 30 years. Cathy began her journey with Scouts when she was young. Her involvement began with Girl Guides and later gravitated to Boy Scouts when she had her three boys, passing on the valuable skills she had learnt. She was a leader and a trainer and travelled across the country for jamborees. Cathy's love to help others didn’t stop there. She also dedicated many years of volunteer time to the West End Senior Center in Winnipeg.

Cathy was very fond of traveling, especially with her family. They put on many miles, making a lifetime of memories. Over the years she travelled to Great Britain and to Alaska with her sister-in-law Janet. In the winter months she enjoyed visiting good friends Tanya and Blake in Arizona.

She lived life to the fullest and didn’t leave any stone unturned.  It's hard saying goodbye to somebody who has made such an impact in our lives, but it's comforting knowing that even though she isn’t with us physically anymore, we carry her with us wherever we go. Until we meet again.

Cathy was a wonderful and kind woman. My heart aches for her family. She may not be beside you anymore but forever lives in your hearts.

Cathy and I were best friends for over 55 years.  We met through Scouting and made many trips together to Jamborees and shopping trips.  I will miss our phone calls and meetings for lunch in Winnipeg.  She was a terrific friend and I am missing her already.  RIP wonderful lady.  ❤❤❤
