LEE JOANNE MOHR

September 9, 1953 - October 23, 2022

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of their beloved Wife, Mother, and Nana, Lee Joanne Mohr. On the morning of Sunday October 23, 2022 at St Boniface Hospital Lee fought bravely until the very end, but succumbed to the health issues that troubled her life in the later years. Lee passed at the age of 69.

Lee is survived by her loving husband of 40 years, Peter, her beautiful daughters Jessica (Todd) Grywinski and Jackie, grandsons Owen and Oliver, sisters Lynne (Errol) Sokoloski, Lesley (David) Leonhardt and Lorril Vielfaure. She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Margaret Maxwell, and sister Lizabeth (Doug) Hart. Also mourning her loss are extended family members, and friends.

Lee grew up on Kimberley Avenue in East Kildonan as the second eldest of five sisters. Lee started her career in the banking industry at Niagara Finance in 1976, and finishing at HSBC Bank Canada.

After Lee met Pete in 1980 they enjoyed many weekends at Lee's family cottage in Falcon Lake, where they made many fond memories with Lee’s parents, sisters, and friends. Once Pete got hooked on ‘lake life’ he and Lee ventured out to build a cottage of their very own in Grindstone Provincial Park, in 1986. The cottage became the focal point of their lives, but not before working hard cutting down trees, and hauling branches to clear their new slice of paradise.

Once the cottage was built Lee and Pete could not wait for the weekends to arrive. There, Lee enjoyed tending to her flowers that were planted with the help of sister Lesley, and sister in-law Elfriede, playing a few hands of cribbage during happy hour, poker darts with friends, and dancing in the kitchen. And when the lake chores were done, she loved to sit along the shore with Pete, cocktail in hand, watching the sun go down. The cottage brought Lee great joy, and throughout the years she adored many happy times hosting family and friends. She loved that (daughters) Jessie and Jackie grew up at the cottage, experiencing everything that ‘lake life’ had to offer.

After Lee and Pete retired, they enjoyed seven wonderful years vacationing in Panama City Beach, Florida. Lee cherished walks along the beach searching for sea shells, ping-pong, Krispy Kreme doughnuts (that couldn’t be found in Winnipeg), and having Jessie, Todd, and Jackie visit.

Lee's daughters and grandsons were the “light of her life”. She took pleasure in keeping up with Jessie, Jackie and Todds busy lives on ‘social media’. Lee was Jackie's biggest fan, not a day went by that she didn't listen to one of Jackie’s songs. Pete, Jessie, Jackie, Todd, Owen and Oliver will forever remember the Love, Joy and Laughter Lee brought into their lives. Lee's warm heart, kindness, generosity and good humour will be remembered by all of the people that entered her life.

Forever in our hearts,

Peter, Jessica, Jackie, Todd, Owen, and Oliver.

In Accordance with Lee's wishes the family will be having private event to celebrate her life.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.

Lee's family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Sincerest condolences to the Mohr and Maxwell families. Lee and I first met in grade 7..the beginning of many teen and early adulthood adventures with our gal pals. As the years passed, even though our lives went in different directions, stories of her life were often shared. The beautiful tribute and the caring, loving words shared here certainly tell the story of Lee.  I will cherish the wonderful memories of times spent with Lee.   Rest well, dear friend ❤ Katherine McKellar

Words cannot express our feelings of sadness on Lee's passing. As our friend and next door neighbour Lee never failed to lift our spirits. She was a kind generous and funny person. We know that the family will find the strength to keep her memory alive.  Perry & Bev Kowal

We are so very saddened to hear of Lee’s passing.  Our daughter’s went to school together and played sports together so we spent a lot of time together with the Mohr’s.  Even though we haven’t seen each other for years we can still remember the good times we had together!  Our hearts go out to all of the family at this time.  Craig, Kathy, Kara, Aaron & Brett Thompson

Margaret and I have so many happy memories of Lee and how she treated everyone like a member of the family. Her home became a place  every kid in South Beach would gravitate to and her parties were legendary. She was genereous, kind and welcoming. We will all miss her and curse the cruel condition that took her away too soon. Our hearts are with you Pete, Jessica and Jackie. Scott and Margaret Edmonds

We were so saddened to read the news of the passing of our 'old' friend. Lee and I actually took guitar lessons together in, I think 1974 :)  I would love Lee's family to have these beautiful pictures of a young Lee (they're 8x10's and larger), if the family would like to have them, please email me and we can make arrangements to get them to you.  (there are 3 photos, could not upload all 3)  Elaine (Hammerback) Friesen and Eric Friesen
