MARION MOIST

(née DUNSMORE)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother, Marion Moist, on April 29, 2023. Marion passed peacefully with her family at her side after a four-and-one-half year battle with ovarian cancer.

Marion was born in Bellshill, Scotland, on September 16, 1954. She moved to Canada in 1975 and enjoyed a 38-year career at Manitoba Health.

Marion was predeceased by her mother, Isobel Dunsmore, in 1994; twin brother Jack, in 2005; parents-in-law, Lloyd and Mae Moist, in 2012.

She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Paul Moist; daughter Kelly; twin grandsons, Aiden and Lucas; son Scott (Jacqui); brother Craig (Elaine), of Lanark, Scotland; and her many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends.

Marion lived life to the fullest. She was a loving wife and mother. She was active in the community, in her union and in numerous volunteer roles. She was full of compassion and helped many friends through personal and life challenges. She loved to travel with her close friends, the “Golden Girls”. She was constantly in motion and full of smiles. She loved all her dogs that the family cherished over the past 40 years. For Marion, life was about the journey. It was about supporting and loving her family, and her many close friends. She touched all who met her. She leaves a legacy of living life well, always placing the needs of others ahead of her own. May she rest peacefully, reunited with all her loved ones who predeceased her.

We offer heartfelt thanks to the entire team at Cancer Care Manitoba, and the Downtown West Homecare Nursing group, for both their professional service and compassion.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday, May 11 at the Unitarian Church, 603 Wellington Crescent. Flowers gratefully declined. Donations in Marion’s memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

My deepest condolences to Kelly and Paul.  While I never had the privilege of meeting Marion, I know the legacy she left of community service, volunteerism, and union activity within her family.  I worked with Kelly for many years at the WCB and can attest to those same wonderful traits passed along to her daughter.  Having recently lost my own mother to the terrible disease of cancer, I know how hard it is to lose a Mom at any age.  I hope your sadness at this time will eventually be replaced with good memories of the lasting legacy she has left for all.     Cheryl Choptain

Condolences to Paul,Kelly,Scott(Jacqui) and the boys (Aiden & Lucas). You all had the joy of having a fabulous partner, mother and grandmother and I had the pleasure of having a wonderful sister. Myself,Elaine,Lewis and Rachel will miss her loads, She made everyone welcome in her home and always managed to stop me spending money on rubbish or something that I totally didn’t need or wouldn’t use. I loved the time we spent at Costco with Marion making sure that whatever I bought was on sale or a bargain. She was a great person even managing to calm Rachel down on one of our trips over by a lunch at 521 a trip to get her nails done. We really enjoyed your trip over to Lanark with Elaine and taking you to every Fish & Chip shop for a “Fish Supper” and with you both taking part in the local celebration of the “Marches night” We will miss you always but will never forget you. Love always,Craig ,Elaine ,Lewis and Rachel.

Dear Paul, Kelly, Scott and family.  We are heartbroken to learn of Marion’s passing.  Your family has been part of our lives for 50 years and we know how much Marion will be missed!  She was so full of life,  always on the move and has been taken from us too soon.  We have many fond memories of times shared with you all.  Marion’s was the first face I saw as a visitor at my hospital bedside when I awoke from my surgery.  I wish I could have been with her.   With our deepest condolences, John, Viv and Eric Sandberg
