PETER "TONY" ANTHONY MONTAGNON

June 27, 1960 – May 21, 2025

On May 21, 2025 Peter Anthony (Tony) Montagnon peacefully left this world after a short battle with cancer. He was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Betty Montagnon; and sister-in-law JoAnne.

Tony is survived by his siblings, Maureen (Warren), Mike, Paul and Lise (Rick). Also, his estranged wife, Lorraine; her children, Robert and Ryan; very special friend and partner Kathleen Harrison; her daughters, Jennifer (Rick) who had a very special place in his heart and Vanessa (Tyler); as well as her grandchildren, Carson, Andy, Evan, Chloe, Kaylee, and Emily; along with numerous nieces and nephews and great friends, Dave and Debbie being at the top of that list.

Tony was born on June 27, 1960 in Kenora, Ontario. Tony was a proud member of the Armed Forces serving with the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) until an injury in 1984 ended his military career.

Tony had a lifelong love for hockey, proudly playing as a goalie for many teams and leagues over the years. He also worked as a mechanic and welder until his military injury made it impossible to continue in that line of work. His passion for the outdoors led him to become a hunting and fishing guide at resorts in western Ontario and north eastern Manitoba - work he truly loved!

He was always a great friend and a generous man to everyone and had a great sense of humour which he said he got from his dad. He had a big heart often opening his home and life to those in need. He will always have a presence in the lives of everyone who knew him and will be sadly missed.

Tony would have loved you all to have a drink for him and, if you care to, a donation to any Dog Rescue in his memory.

Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will take place on his birthday, June 27th, in Kenora, Ontario. He will be laid to rest with his parents, as he wished.

Tony, you’re now free

to go run with your dogs

and enjoy a Pepsi!

Tony’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

A lot of shenanigans took place when we went to Rabbit Lake. One of my favourite memories was seeing Tony at the very top of a tree screaming and making the tree top sway wildly.

I just heard of Tony's passing today. Some of my fondest memories were going to Kenora in the summer and Tony, Paul and I seemed to get in a lot of michief. I loved going there. My sincerest condolences to everyone.

Okay 1 Tony Story

Warren built us a gocart and it was a rocket lol. The wheels were from golf carts and did it fly. Initially we would go down our driveway which was way too fast for me but Tony got bored with that quickly. Me I was the pusher guy and yes I wasn't fast enough and tired quickly. Tony had a great idea in his mind, we were up early one summer day and headed to the road in front of Johnsons Cabins. We pushed the gocart up the hill aways and Tony sent me down the hill to stop traffic I was a little kid but that was the plan Tony was counting to 100 so I could get to my spot at our road waiting for Tony.. Waiting and waiting for Tony a truck approaches and I wave, it stops its Mr Campbell, whats up he asks i tell him Tony is coming down the hill in the gocart. He couldn't believe it then here he comes flying down the road taking the curve wide almost not making it as he flew by us wide eyes and hanging on for dear life. Mr Campell shook his head in disbelief. Tony went all the way to the trailer park entrance Mr Campbell told me to get in the truck and we went to fetch Tony. When we got to him he was jumping around so proud of his ride. Mr Campbell was so angry saying how he could have been killed etc but Tony had heard that before many times lol. He put the gocart in the truck and told us if he ever saw us do this again he would take it away and we would never see it again. He took us home and well there was 1 more run in Keewatin where he found a hill that snapped the axel never to be repaird thanks Warren he survived

Growing up in Kenora was nothing less than magical for me and tony. We lived just down the street from Rabbit lake where we spent endless hours we knew it was time to come home when we saw mom with a switch coming to get us home. The woods in the back yard was filled with adventures summer and winter. The cabin was a bonus for friends and family who would come to share it with us. Every day was an adventure correction Tony didn"t sleep much so those adventures were day/evenings depending on his mood. These were the happiest days of our lives unfortunately they didn't last long enough. Tony I am sorry you had to leave us so soon but I know your home now and happy. God Bless you brother

The memories I carry with me are your smile, your laughter, your sense of humour, your goalie stories and your love of fishing, Also, that you somehow survived the tumbles behind the boat tubing with Todd behind the wheel! You would surface every time with a huge grin on your face and incredibly, do it again!!

Thank you for the memories,

Lise XO

Cheers to Uncle Tony. Will never forget all the laughter and fun when Uncle Tony was visiting Kenora. Always got a kick out of his Facebook posts and he was always sure to chime in his sentimates on all of the Spencer clan family pictures. Rest easy Tony.
