ADAM MORDARSKI

April 22, 1948 - February 1, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his children Josh and Karen (Curt); grandson Léo; brothers Henryk (Elizabeth) and Edward (Pamela); niece Katie (Alex); and the mother of his children, Denise Bernard. He is predeceased by his parents Władysław Mordarski and Genowefa (née Depta).

Born in the Displaced Persons camp Altenstadt in Germany, Adam immigrated to Canada at the age of 2 and became a proud Canadian Citizen in May of 1955. Growing up on Higgins Street, Adam and his brothers would spend their days playing sports, taking the train to the beach and riding their bikes everywhere, even as far out as Cooks Creek. After moving to Elmwood, Adam graduated from Elmwood High and went on The University of Winnipeg where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1979.

Life itself was an adventure for Adam. He started his career with Canada Post in 1968, and spent the majority of his time in Depot D and Depot T. Upon retirement, he was #1 on the carrier’s list as well as having the most seniority in the city. Marriage and kids, always travelling and embarking in businesses such as AbD Cards and Slo-Pitch National. Slo Pitch encouraged his love for the game, both through umpiring and playing. Adam was inducted into the Slo Pitch Hall of Fame twice, first as a player in 2006 and then as an Umpire in 2009. He also served as Umpire In Chief from 1989-1996 and literally wrote the rule book.

In his early 20s the travel bug surfaced and Adam toured Europe and Australia with Henryk. Throughout summer vacations, he would tour Canada “diamond by diamond” with the kids while playing ball during the National Championships. He saw every province, and almost all of the lower 48. Retirement brought on his favourite trips, winter vacation! Cuba, Panama, El Salvador, you name it; if it was warm, he was there with his travel group. Before the pandemic hit, he was able to go back to Europe and cruise through the Mediterranean.

Adam was an eternal optimist and a laid-back go with the flow kind of guy who never had a bad word about anyone. We will surely miss his joyous disposition, and his hugs-even if it had been a day since he last saw you, he hugged you like it had been a year.

In accordance with Adam’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In the meantime, Adam’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter. We love you Dad!

Since moving to the city eleven years ago, I have enjoyed a unique friendship with Adam. You see I like to study people, who are they really ? their habits , their beliefs, but always keeping my distance. But I realized their was something very special in Adam. Not only his genuine friendliness and openness but how he treated people as equals  and how he adapted to life’s challenges.I admired him him greatly and I can honestly say he was likely the best teammate I have ever had. I or he took me to Roblin once and at first I had reservations about taking Adam because I had certain things to do and would Adam “get in the way”Well , I could not have been more wrong .I don’t think I enjoyed a trip so much to my home town and it was because of Adam. You see because I believe to be successful in life it is not what you do or what you have that is so important , but it is what you become. And that was Adam , a good person and friend and I will think of him a lot this season in ball and likely every time I see a baseball card. .. He was one hell of a guy and I am a better person for knowing him.  Ken Jakeman

We enjoyed Adam’s company on two trips with the travel group to Mexico. He was always willing to embark on any adventure and engage in conversation with friends and strangers. Such a kind and gentle spirit. RIP Adam

Hi Josh & Karen. I have fond memories of spending time with your dad volunteering with 1st Emerson Wolf Cubs. He and your mom were both enthusiastic helpers. I particularly remember your dad’s hobby collecting the autographs from baseball players on their trading cards. A splendid video and written description of  some highlights from his full and wonderful life.  You have a lot to be proud of in your father and a profound loss.

Karen and Josh, our deepest Sympathy…Ben and Adam started at the Post Office together at Station D and soon became friends! Adam was a great listener and sounding board for Ben. I met Adam in the late 1970’s along with many of the D Station characters!  Ricky, Danny, Clayton, Judy, Randy and more! Adam was always the one whose face would light up with a smile, especially when he talked about you, Karen and Josh! Take time to grieve, but also take joy in how much he loved you.

Adam was truly one of baseball's gentlemen.  An ambassador of the sport both on and off the field.  Open for a chat, a beverage and a story whether during the game of after.  Condolences go out from the entire Character Baseball Team to Adam's family.  Here's to more stories and better memories.  RIP Adam.

My condolence to Adam’s family.  We worked together at depot T and had the pleasure of attending the Christmas parties he arranged each year.  We kept in touch after retirement and just saw him in December buying his grey cup tickets. He was a special person and will be missed.

❤ Met Adam back in the 70’s,  he was such a great soul.  He took our wedding pictures.  In fact truth be told he is one of the reasons that I named my son Adam.  Met up with him a few years back,  and he still had that smile.  He may be gone but he is not forgotten.  My sincere condolences to his family.

My condolences to the family. It’s been said God only takes the good ones . Adam was a good one . God must have needed a baseball player or umpire because Adam loved doing both. I knew Adam for many years through working together at Depot T. He loved organizing things and wanted everything to go perfectly and it did . I loved hearing from Adam on where he was going for holidays in winter and where he was playing ball in the summer. Adam made sure he would look you up if you lived out of town when he was on a card selling trip just to reconnect. RIP Adam Ted Deresh

We are so sorry to hear of Adam's passing.  He was one of the nicest people you could ever meet.  He always made you feel that you, and whatever you had to say, was the most important thing to him.  I'm sorry to he didn't get to do more traveling as I knew that's what he had wanted to do.  He will be greatly missed in the Flashback organization and by all the players in the Senior Slo-pitch league.  Sincere condolences to his family.

My sincere condolences to Josh , Karen and Curt and Adam’s brothers. I met Adam when I was doing Station D and later on Depot T for 10 plus years.  He was a kind considerate  person. He would make a Christmas party for the depot and everyone was invited and had a wonderful time.. I would see him when I went for walks at the other end of my block and have a chat.  He will be so missed. My friend Judy lived next door to him for 30 plus years and she was also so shocked to hear about Adam. He was a wonderful person.

Met Adam back in the late 60's as my wife and me were good friends with his brother Henry. Little did I know that I would become close friends with Adam after working with him at Canada Post for 30 years. He was the one who arranged all the Christmas parties and every other event Canada Post related. He was so dedicated and organized in keeping all us coworkers united. The work it took to have a Christmas party of a 100+ was a task he took on every year. Everyone including their spouses, girlfriend, boyfriends etc. went home with a gift thanks to Adam soliciting companies for donations to the party. After his retirement he still kept us all united, breakfast the last Friday of every month, Coffee at KP, group lottery purchases and his E-mails keeping us all informed about each other. I was just talking to Adam at the end of January and to find out of his passing was truly a shocked me.  Our condolences to the Mordarski family. We lost a Great, Great guy and he will be remembered by all.                   Peter and Cathy Schneider

Its over two months later and I am only now learning of Adam's passing.  I was horrified to hear this very sad news.   I met and got to know Adam about 11 years ago when I started attending Sports Memorabilia and Trading Card shows for my business.  We soon developed a friendship.  He was such a friendly, kind hearted, up beat, positive person.  I always enjoyed our conversations and looked forward to seeing him at all the shows.  He was an outstanding person and now attending a show will never be the same for me without seeing his smiling face there.  Be at peace my friend.  Until we meet again, you will be sadly missed.  Will remember you often.
