Jim Morin

JAMES MICHAEL MORIN
(Jim/Mouse)
April 11, 1957 - October 3, 2025
Surrounded by his sister Barb Unrau, partner Laurie Summers, and two dear friends, Drake Winogradoff and Menno Wiebe, Jim’s brave battle with cancer ended and he passed peacefully into the arms of his Mom and Dad. Taken from us far too soon, we are grateful for the years we shared with him and will carry precious memories of him in our hearts forever.
Depending on how long you knew Jim, there are things about him that you may or may not know. Here are just a few.
- Talented Little League pitcher, helping to lead The Colts to many game wins and club championships
- Mini-bike “Evil Knievel”
- Neighbourhood rascal – teased all the girls
- Pool shark – could clean the clock of much older sharks from a very young age
- Gifted machine operator for over 40 years
- Honest and reliable sales rep
- Loving pet Dad
- True outdoorsman and avid fisherman – he was happiest at the lake, sitting on the dock with a fishing rod in one hand and a beer in the other
- Nature lover – member of the Fort Whyte Nature Centre for 40 years
- Perfectionist in everything he did
- Huge Blue Bombers, Jets and Washington Redskins Fan
- Great curler
- Damned good golfer
- Terrific poker player
- Music lover and musician
- Smooth dancer – sweeping the girls off their feet every chance he got
- Awesome party planner and the BEST HOST – everyone was welcome in his home, day or night
- Quick wit – always making people laugh
- Handsome, charming, romantic and a “class act” in every way
Jim had the biggest, kindest heart on the planet. He would stand up for the underdog, give someone the shirt off his back if they needed it, and come to the rescue of a friend in a heartbeat. He worked hard, played hard and loved deeply. He will leave a massive hole in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him.
Even though he is back in the arms of his loving Mom and Dad, Lloyd and Mary Morin (née Posaluko); and reunited with his best friend Horst Kaiser; we know he will continue to watch over his big sister Barb Unrau; partner Laurie Summers; her son Jay (Alex); God daughter Elizabeth Kaiser; and countless, amazing friends that he loved and cherished during his short time on this earth.
With the exception of a very few, Jim carried the heavy burden of his fate alone for almost two years, not wanting anyone to treat him differently or feel sorry for him; that took enormous strength and courage.
We will miss you every day Jim, but your beautiful spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
To the amazing Angels at Riverview Health Centre and The Grace Hospice who went above and beyond to care for Jim, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for giving us more time to love Jim. Your kindness and compassion will never be forgotten.
A celebration of Jim’s life will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at Fort Whyte Alive’s new Buffalo Crossing complex, 2505 McGillivray Boulevard. With respect and gratitude, in lieu of flowers you may wish to make a donation in Jim’s memory to Fort Whyte Alive or a charity of your choice.

I posted a long memory on Facebook of Jim and I having fun and being crazy over many years. I tried to cut and paste it but it didn't take. We went back ( and before) to the 70's, then when he lived on Lipton, then here and there to Fort Whyte. Jim landscaped my yard on Rathgar with his Drott in about '82, it was amazing. Used sod removed from City park ( removed for tennis courts) was part of fishing trips and BS sessions through many jobs and social events being Fort Garry lads and being 1957 vintage 12 days apart. His laugh will be in my subconscious for ever. RIP MOUSE.

I just heard of Jim's passing earlier today.
We worked together at Garry Memorial Cemetery on McGillvray Blvd. from April to September in 1978. He was the foreman and I was one of his "gravediggers."
He was hilarious to work, all day, every day, he kept us all in stitches and was a darn good hand at working a backhoe, too. When I look at the pictures others have submitted here..........that smile. Same smile all these years later.
Please accept my condolences on your loss. He will be missed.

My heart goes out to you. He will be greatly missed. The way he always lit up the room with his smile and energy. He would always try to make sure that others were happy. Growing up with Jim was always an adventure. You never knew what he was going to get up to but it was always with a smile. I know I will miss him very much. May your hearts be filled with peace and loving memories.

Dear Little Brother of my BEST Bud in this world, It is true you Magnameous, Mischevious Soul because I was so proufoundley blessed to meet your Big Sister and spontaneousley connect for our lifetimes- I've known you pretty much the same time. So many blessings countless amount because of your Mom, Dad you and Barb. You are ne of the biggest Bomber Fans I ever met, we both agree Fishing and Fort Whyte best things in life! Dam I was really down right jealous you owned a house that simply couldn't have been located closer to it.
Hard to choose best memory; but what always comes to mind is when Barb shared with me your depth and skills on the Draught. I knew what a draught could accomplish and what it looked like, when Barb said"Yup he is pretty dan good, he can pick up a dime with a draught." I totally thought she was joking. She assured me it was true, then I saw him operating one helping his big sister in her yard and my mind was BLOWN! Love you Jim You and your treasured Big Sister make the BEST team especially , you know the saying and so does she, "When the going gets tough the tough get going." Maybe the best teamwork I've seen Jim Morin! BRAVO!
