CHRISTINE MORRIS

It is with deep sadness we announce that Christine left us far too quickly, after a brief illness, on February 5, 2023 with her family at her side.

Christine was a loving mother, grandmother, partner, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin and friend. It’s hard to say in a few words what our hearts loved about the beautiful woman that she was.

Christine was incredibly strong and fiercely independent. She was a cancer survivor and managed to always keep her sense of humour, even during the hardest times. She loved deeply, for as tiny as she was in stature, her love was monumental. She always had a twinkle in her eyes.  She was always up for a party. Her love for music and dancing usually turned into many impromptu living room dance parties.

Christine loved to cook and bake. Making meals for people she loved was her love language. When you were invited for dinner, you knew that a feast was waiting for you, which always included the “four basic meat groups”. Christine’s passion and therapy was in her garden. There was nothing she loved more than puttering in her yard on a sunny day. Many hours were spent outside taking care of her flowers and veggies. Garden Centres got dollar signs in their eyes when they saw her coming.

In her 34 years at Manitoba Hydro, Christine made many lifelong friends that she cherished dearly.

During her years at Hydro, Christine met her love, her best friend, her partner, Heath. Heath was there for Christine through good times and bad.  He was her safe place. Together they made a loving home that all felt welcome in.

Christine will be forever carried in the hearts of her family. Her beautiful children, Magen and her partner Gord, Dylan and his wife Bailey. Her step sons, Ethan and Henry. Her pride and joy, her grandchildren, Kaiya, Carter and Tara. Her father Raymond and his friend Elly, brothers Keith and his wife Jo-Anne, Glen and his wife Keri. Her sister-in-law, Sandra and her husband Trevor and her mother-in-law, Margaret.  “Aunt Slappy” as she was lovingly referred to had a special bond with her nieces and nephews, Ian, Emily, Jaeden, Galen, Weldon & Stella.

She was predeceased by her mother, Kathy, in 2020.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for the care they provided to Christine and the compassion they extended to us in her final hours.

A celebration of Christine’s life will take place on Friday March 3 from 6:00 to 10:00 PM at the Caboto Centre, 1055 Wilkes Ave, Winnipeg.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Christine’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation or Main Street Project.

I, like so many others, am having a hard time coming to grips with Christine’s passing. My sincere condolences to Christine’s family.  I met Christine in 1986 when I joined ID Engineering.  We had some great times working and playing together.  We remained friends even after we both moved on to other jobs, her to Hydro me to the Province.  No matter how much time passed between visits it was non stop laughter when we got together.  What I loved about Christine was how she made you feel when she saw you,  like she was SO happy to see you, making you feel so special.  I will miss you dear friend.
