PARK MUNRO

September 23, 1938 – April 4, 2026

William Archibald Park Munro passed peacefully into Eternal Rest in the early hours of Saturday, April 4, 2026.

Park was predeceased by Barbara, his beloved wife and soulmate, with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage.

He was a devoted and proud father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Park will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Shelley (Chris) and Sherri (Giao); his grandchildren, Kristjan (Michaela) and Signy (Robert); his cherished great grandson Casey; his adored “grand dogs” Maggie, Guapo, Jarvis, and Lola; his cousin Bonnie; his brothers and sisters in law; as well as many dear friends and neighbours.

An only child, Park was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Archie and Margaret Munro.

In his youth, Park was actively involved as a Sea Cadet and spent many summers learning to sail. His enthusiasm for sailing and fascination with the high seas remained with him throughout his life.

Park dedicated 37 years of service to the Manitoba Telephone System, retiring in 1993.

Music and performance were lifelong passions. Park sang and played the fiddle throughout his life, sharing his talents with church choirs, the Winnipeg Male Chorus, the band Take 5, and numerous dinner theatres. In retirement, he truly blossomed, performing extensively with dinner theatres and at church events through Oakbank United Church, where he was a devoted member for more than 35 years.

Park was an enthusiastic sports fan, faithfully cheering for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Goldeyes. He was also an avid curler and greatly enjoyed participating in many bonspiels alongside his MTS workmates and friends.

A devoted train enthusiast, Park delighted in model railroading, watching trains, and riding them whenever he could.

Park’s love of life, family, and music will be celebrated later this year at a private family service.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the exceptional staff of the 8th Floor Palliative Care Unit at St. Boniface Hospital for their compassion and dedicated care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Thank you for sharing

your love of music

and for the joy you brought

by always having

just the right song.

Park & Barbara were two very unique and special people.

We enjoyed visiting with them at their home and also at our home in Dryden.

We enjoyed laughter and each others company and often said we should have gotten together sooner in life.

They were from another era just like us.

We did have the opportunity to attend a dinner theatre in Winnipeg where Park had a major role.

Fond Memories!

A beautiful tribute to Park. I mainly spent time with Park during family gatherings starting around the time that Park and Barb had become grandparents, a role they both embraced - lucky Kristjan and Signy. During get-togethers Park radiated joy, happy to share stories and laughter. At both Christmas and during summer gatherings he would tune up his fiddle, happy to join in with the guitars and singers. After Barb's passing, I admired how Park coped with losing the love of his life, never forgetting his cherished memories of their life together, while at the same time continuing to stay connected and involved with church and community theatre. We were last together at his grand daughter's outdoor wedding, where he enthusiastically pitched in with the preparations. It was a wonderful time, and I'm so glad that there was such a joyous family occasion to bring Sherri, Shelley, and Park and all of us together. Then the icing on the cake near the end of Park's life, he was able to meet his much anticipated great grandson, Casey, who had just come into the world. I'm glad to have known Park and am sending my love and condolences to the whole family.
