JAMES “JIM” GEORGE MURRAY

May 24, 1942 – April 13, 2026

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of James “Jim” George Murray at the age of 83.

He will be deeply missed by his wife Lydia for whom he wrote the following many years ago: “feelings now tested by the passage of time, time to gamble, time to make you mine, the doors of happiness seemed locked by “miss fate” but “lady luck” knew it was not to be too late”.

He will also be deeply missed by his daughter Angie; stepsons, Sean (Sue) and Brad; along with grandchildren Samuel, Adam, Delisa, Logan, Nicholas, and Caitlyn. He will also be deeply missed and fondly remembered by many extended family members and numerous lifelong friends.

Jim was born in Scotland in 1942. He came over to Canada in 1944 at the age of 3 on the RMS Franconia which was a British troopship ship during WW11 with his mum and 15 year old sister Penny. Their voyage to their new country was a challenging one as the accompanying war ships dropped depth charges to keep the enemy U-boats following them at bay. His early life in Canada was not easy or kind. He left home at sixteen to make his way in the world on his own.

Jim and Lydia had 41 years of love, partnership, fun, and adventures. Jim never missed an opportunity to connect with friends, and he was always there to lend a helping hand. Most importantly he never missed an opportunity to tell us that he loved us. In addition to the love he had for his family and friends he also loved a clean car and a meticulous home and yard. Even in the dirt and dust of Spring Jim’s car would be clean as can be. He always enjoyed a good cup of tea with friends or family, and a cold beer shared with Lydia in the back yard after a day of yard work.

Jim was the original “do it once do it right” kind of guy. He was a jack of all trades, and true to his Scottish nature he did not believe in paying anyone to do what he felt he could do himself, and he could build and fix most anything. Jim also love to talk, and he could talk to anyone about most anything. A good debate was always welcomed with a warm or cold beverage in hand.

The family would like to thank the staff at Grace Hospital for the kind and compassionate care they provided. We would also like to thank the friends and family who provided support during this difficult time. There will be a Celebration of Life for Jim with family and friends during the summer which was a time of year he loved. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Heart and Stoke Foundation.

Ken, nice to see that picture of us at Snowshoe Lake. Those were good times and had some laughs with Jim talking about them when Paul and I stopped in to see him. Just a few old surveyors drinking rum out of tin cups in the rain!

I am sad to hear of Jim's passing. I had the pleasure of working with Jim at Wardrop Engineering where he was the best mentor I ever had. Often in my career today the wisdom I gained from him, helps me still.

Grandma I am sorry for your loss ❤️. And to Grandpa Jim some of my favorite childhood memories are playing in the snow in Winnipeg, especially our snow fort days. Thank you for those moments, I’ll cherish them always. Love, Delisa.

i was fortunate to spend many happy hours in the Murray's home on Sunset &the inspiration for a clean house should hit anytime now!

During a terrible time in life he was compassionate & present for me when few adults were. To this day I can still feel the love & safety of him holding me tight. (not in a creepy way!) I loved loved loved him. Sorry for your loss & Angie, thanks for inviting me in and letting me know your Dad:) XO
