ANTONIO (TONY) MUSTO

It is with broken hearts and profound sadness we announce the passing of Tony Musto, loving father, son, brother, uncle, and friend, who peacefully passed away at home on October 24, 2023.

He leaves behind in mourning his son Xander; siblings Dino, Josie (Rick), Julio (Laura), Ricardo, Frank, and Anna (Jason); his former spouse, Holly Smith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Raimondo and Graziella Musto; and sister-in-law Cathy Musto.

Tony was born in Winnipeg on August 30, 1965. Tony grew up in Point Douglas and graduated from St. John’s High School and received his Business Administration Diploma from Red River College.

In 1999, his life changed forever with the birth of his son Xander.  Xander was his everything.  His love for his son was insurmountable.  He was the joy and highlight of his life. They were two peas in a pod.

Tony was a fun-loving, happy-go-lucky person that loved his family. He made many lifelong friends growing up in Point Douglas, through school, and at his final workplace, Stephenson Equipment, where he spent the last 21 years of his life. Tony will be remembered for the heart of gold he shared with his friends and family. He truly loved each of them, and if you knew him, you knew it! Even during tough times, Tony always made time for his friends and family. Whether it was spending time with them, helping them with things, or lending an ear, he cared for all the people in his life, and made sure that they knew it every day.

He was a big kid at heart and loved fishing, biking, spending time with family and friends, going to the racetrack, watching pro wrestling (live and on television), watching football, going to arcades, camping, drawing, and painting.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Tony on Saturday, November 4 at 10:00 a.m. at the Holy Rosary Church, 510 River Avenue. Cremation has taken place.

In lieu of flowers, his family kindly asks that donations be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

Tony's family kindly requests that all his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

Its only today that I found out that Tony passed away. (April 15, 2025) I am so sorry to hear this, more than a year and half later. I first met Tony in 2020 through a mutual friend. We communicated often during the Covid-19 lockdown, but my job took me to another city in 2022 and the last text message conversation we had was in December 2022 where we wished each other a Merry Christmas. He mentioned that his health was declining, yet he was so postive and optimistic. Unfortunatley, my job took me to a very different time zone and we lost touch. I had no idea that that would be the last time I communicated with him. I'm now back in Winnipeg and heard through a friend of a friend of his passing. My condolances to his family, friends and especially his son Xander who he spoke of often. Although we only knew each other for a short time, I could see that Tony was a lovely person and cared deeply about others. May he rest in Peace.

RIP buddy. Tony and I were friends from high school. We shared many adventures but one fishing trip out to the Narrows is forever etched in my mind. We arrived in the dead of night and couldn't find the campground. We setup our tent just off a gravel road where locals proceeded to race their cars! Of course, we didn't catch a single fish. Good times. Until we meet again Tony...

I worked next to Tony for what would’ve been a year this December. From the moment we met he was quick to show me kindness, respect and one of the sharpest wits I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. The great beyond has got to be noticeably brighter now having such a lovely person in it

I have had the pleasure of working with Tony for the past fifteen years at Stephenson Equipment. Tony was a good friend to me and he was always a bright spot in my day. He was a kind and gentle man whose friendliness never failed to make me smile. He had a happy personality and loved to kid around and no matter how busy the day his positivity was always present.  I used to love bringing in a long parts estimate and playing a game with him and Eric from our parts department . The challenge was to see who could quote the part numbers faster and more accurately from memory with just a brief description of the part. It was like a game show which Tony was incredibly good at. This memory never fails to make me smile.  Tony was an outstanding and loving father to Xander and he proudly shared stories and experiences with me. He was interested in my family as well and over the years he would often come out and support my children’s events. He was such a social guy and had a friend in everyone around him. His big heart, hard work and joking around are only a few of the wonderful things about Tony that will be sadly missed but not forgotten.  My deepest sympathies to all of his family and friends. Kell Best I am sharing a few pictures of Tony

I grew up with Tony as a young boy.  We had all sorts of fun in our youth and would get in trouble from our parents as we never came home in time as we were always outside it didn't matter what time of year.  Tony was a very good athlete as he was very fast and agile which helped him in all kinds of sports and was never an invidualist but a core team player "Always had your backs."  Later in life we started to going to socials, bars and Tony was the best dancer amongst the Point Douglas crew and would always attract women which would make us jealous.  It was good times at Strawberries, Scandals, Le Rendezvous and Night Moves.  One thing that Tony and I shared a love for was fishing, he always had the hot hand where it came to the point where I asked "How to you always catch the first fish and more than me?"  Tony would grab the weirdest jigs and lures and low and behold he has a fish and I try using the same jig or lure and nothing,,,  My sincere and heartfelt condolences to the Musto family, I will always remember you Tony in my memories and what will stand out is your smile, your big heart and being there for your friends and family.   RIP my friend...

I was shocked and saddened to hear the news about my old friend.  I have such good recollections of my early childhood including hanging out with Tony and friends.  I recall living in Winnipeg and growing up in Point Douglas and attending Norquay elementary school where we met. Tony was a funny, happy, outgoing kid who was a blast to hang out with. It was so easy to be and make friends with him.. . a true sign of a great person. My heartfelt condolences to the Musto family and loved ones.

My deepest and most sincere condolences to the entire Musto family. I am deeply saddened and heartbroken by this news also. I pray that the Lord comfort you daily through the presence of loved ones and friends surrounding you daily and in sharing the memories and celebration of Tony's life, his generous and kind spirit, and his dedication and love for his family and friends, during these extremely difficult times. And dear Tony, even though we were no longer a couple, we kept in touch and chatted every now and then. We maintained a friendship and it was obvious that there was and always will be a special bond, care, and connection there. For the years that I did get to know you and share a life with you and your family and friends, it is indeed your kind, gentle, thoughtful, and generous heart that stuck out to me. You reminded me a lot of my dad in many ways, and who's name was also Tony (Antoine in French). Tony would never hurt a fly and you were the same; always willing to help out anyone in need, went beyond even your own time, energy, and capacity to help others, even if they didn't do the same in return. I don't understand why God decided to take you so soon but maybe he needed more angels in heaven! I pray that you have found eternal peace at last in His Loving arms and hope to meet you again some day in Paradise! You have left your mark on many and you will forever be remembered and never forgotten. Sharing this image from a celebration with my family for two of my sister's birthdays as it completely shows your joyful and fun loving spirit; and you were the smartest one of all of us in there, lol! 😁We love you; I will miss you dearly! xoxo

Tony and I have worked together over the past 10 years. He was always happy,  bringing laughter and joy everywhere he went. Often on his way back to work he would stop at the dollar store and get my kids a book or small toy. He was always very kind to everyone. He was a great friend and will be missed.

Lots of nostalgia this week, thinking back to some wonderful childhood memories. He used to take us trick or treating every year, all the baking experiments, his eclectic taste in music. He really was like an older brother to me. After my first son was born he gave me a beautiful ornament that I still put on the tree every year. Tony was a kind, gentle soul who will be greatly missed. My heart goes out to Xander and the whole Musto family. I’m keeping you all in my thoughts.
