GERALD (GERRY) EDMOND MUYS

It is with heavy hearts, and many tears that we announce the final journey of Gerry.

Gerry was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to Agnes and Cyril Muys, on a cold winters day.

Gerry leaves to mourn his loving, and devoted partner, Nancy and her son Logan. Gerry's sisters Marlene, Brenda (Doug), Cheryl, Darlene (Ted), Michelle (Jason), brother, Gord (Harlyne). Sister in law Christine (Wes), brother in law, Kevin, sister in law Martha and  Furbaby Tucker. Nieces, and Nephews many great nieces, and great nephews and special friends. 

Gerry was predeceased by his niece Kimberley, his parents Agnes and Cyril, his brother Johnny, his nephew Rick and his mother in law Norma.

As a young boy, Gerry mastered the sport of hockey with his brother Gord. The family loved to watch their games and cheer them on. Gerry and Gord played for the A & W team at the Victoria Community Centre. 

Gerry later played for a hockey team that Gord coached, 'The Warriors'.

Gerry also played baseball, and everyone knew he was that player - where he got his nickname "Homer", he could hit those balls right out of the park. 

He played for a few teams but the most memorable was called, "The Bear Nakeds", where he met many friends that he kept in contact with over the years. 

Gerry was that guy, he loved sports! Whether it was on TV or in a stadium. He loved The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, Winnipeg Jets, and Toronto Blue Jays. He attended a few Bomber games with Nancy and Logan. Which he cherished and enjoyed immensely. Now Gerry has the best seat in the house. 

Gerry met Nancy and Logan later in life, they became and instant family. Nancy was his partner, best friend and biggest cheerleader. They were the perfect match as they loved sports. 

Gerry was a gentle soul, with a huge heart, which everyone wanted a piece of. 

Gerry fought a courageous battle with cancer, ultimately took our Ger away from all of us.  

As a family we all took turns taking him to his many appointments, and spending time with him during his hospital stays. There are to many too thank, however first and foremost Nancy for your love, medical binder that kept all of Gerry's appointments, schedules and detailed treatment journal. Dede his sister, who became his partner in crime. Brenda his sister who spent many days with Gerry. 

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at the Victoria Hospital, St. Boniface Hospital and the Health Science Centre (G4) for looking after Gerry. 

Our family has lost a gentle giant, 

who will be missed.

Donations can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba Foundation or the Winnipeg Humane Society.

Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on  Thursday, July 9, 2026  at the First Unitarian Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent.
