JON DAVID MYRDAL

November 24, 1961 – March 10, 2026

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother and uncle, Jon David Myrdal, on March 10, 2026, at the age of 64.

Born on November 24, 1961, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jon was the youngest of the five Myrdal siblings—the final piece of the family puzzle. He will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Patrick Myrdal (Julie); sisters Joan Carter (Greg) and Norma Brett (Kent Delaronde); nieces and nephews, Chelsa Carter (Dennis Eleuterio), Ian Carter, Alex Brett (Molly), and Katie Brett (Steve Tedham); and his grand nieces and nephews, Lincoln, Carter, Wyatt Eleuterio, and Bronwyn Brett. Jon will also be forever remembered by Betty’s wonderful family, the Harrisons, for whom he held deep affection.

Jon was predeceased far too soon by his devoted wife, Betty Lou Myrdal (née Harrison) in 2008 after a valiant battle with Cancer; as well as by his parents Thelma and Mundi Myrdal; and his brother Randy Myrdal.

Jon grew up in River Heights, attending River Heights School and Kelvin High School. His childhood home on Dorchester holds cherished memories of a lively, loving household filled with energy and warmth. In his youth, Jon customized a 1970 Plymouth Barracuda. He was passionate about the modifications. Unfortunately, it was totaled in an accident but he always lit up talking about the car and the work he put into it.

Jon enjoyed a close bond with his extended family, spending countless joyful hours with Myrdal and Johnson cousins. Much of his youth was spent at the family farm in Oakview, Lundar, and at the cottage in Clearwater Bay, places he held dear throughout his life.

Jon’s greatest passion was the love he shared with his beautiful wife, Betty Lou. They were a match made in heaven—inseparable from the moment they met. They were often seen riding through River Heights in Jon’s blue Chevy truck, hand in hand, music playing. After purchasing their first home on Cambridge Street and marrying in the church beside it, Jon and Betty soon realized that country life was calling. They built their dream homes first in Stonewall and later in Teulon, where they created a small hobby farm. Over the years they raised everything from Chickens/Ducks to Geese/Emu and eventually ventured into Cattle. Their days were filled with calm routines, peaceful evenings, and the simple joys of building, gardening, reading, and caring for their animals. Jon especially loved woodworking and always had music playing throughout their home and property.

Jon worked many jobs throughout his life, beginning by helping his older brothers on their paper routes. He later worked in Shipping and Receiving at the Health Sciences Centre, then in Network Equipment Installation for rural homes and businesses, and eventually at Magellan Aerospace, where he finished his career.

In his later years, Jon faced significant health challenges but continued to live independently thanks to the incredible support of neighbours who became family: George and Mary Laquette, Tannis and her son Shaun Tait. Their care, assistance, and companionship were invaluable, and the family extends heartfelt gratitude to them.

Special thanks are also extended to the staff of Lakeshore General Hospital, who cared for Jon with compassion and dedication since the summer. Your kindness will never be forgotten.

We remember Jon as a strong, funny, gentle man, always with a sparkle in his eye.

A private family celebration of life will be held in early summer.

Jon fit in very well in the Harrison family with his easy going way and sweet sense of humor. Jon and Betty hosted many excellent Harrison family get togethers, always generously sharing their home and partaking of fun filled lively debate. He also shared a long-term friendship with my two brothers, sometimes sitting around a fire long into the night when they visited (and often over the phone).

Besides being a wonderful husband and brother-in-law, he was also a kind and entertaining uncle to our kids.

Condolences to the Myrdal family and friends from us. We will miss him.

Dear Myrdal family,

I was so sorry to hear of Jon's passing ( and only but a year after Randy). I'm sure you have many wonderful memories. Hold d r family closer. Always remember, though, that grief is the price we pay for loving. Sending sincerest condolences.
