JOHN EDWARD MYSAK
1927 - 2024
We are sad to share the news that John Mysak of Powerview-Pine Falls, Manitoba passed away on November 19th, 2024, at the age of 97 years.
He is survived by his wife Lorraine; daughter Susan (Don); sons, Roy (Rina), Gary, and Michael (Susan); two sisters, Helen Kush and Elsie Pfefferle; two sisters-in-law, Irene Campeau and Louise Campeau; twelve grandchildren: Trevor, Stefan, Leanna, Evan, Elliott, Jesse, Cassie, Dale, Katie, Lindsay, Anya, and Shane; as well as twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
John will be remembered by his family and friends as a caring, intelligent man with a strong work ethic. He was quick to smile and loved sharing his stories. One of his hobbies was building radio-controlled model airplanes. He was son, brother, husband, dad, uncle, cousin, brother-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and a friend.
John was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba in 1927 and shortly thereafter moved to Pine Falls, Manitoba with his parents Pauline (Apolonia, née Zelisko) and Michael Mysak. John spent most of his life in Pine Falls, a town where the Abitibi Paper Mill transformed the area into a bustling little community on the Winnipeg River. His father Michael was a tailor who operated his own business in town. John’s family lived through the hardships of the Great Depression. As a young man, John went to Windsor, Ontario to work at the Ford Motor Company assembly plant as he was always interested in mechanics and engineering. Following the passing of his father, he returned to Pine Falls to support his mother and two sisters. He got a job at the Paper Mill and also met the love of his life Lorraine, who had arrived in Pine Falls to teach elementary school. John and Lorraine had four children and the family eventually grew to include twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. John and Lorraine recently celebrated 69 years of marriage.
After retiring, John and Lorraine would trade three months of Manitoba winter for sun and fun in Mission Texas. They were joined by Helen, Nick, Elsie, and Bob, as well as friends from Pine Falls. They really loved their time in Texas, golfing, playing, touring and socializing with old and new friends. They often shared stories of their southern experiences.
John was living in the family home where he had cared for Lorraine, prior to her move to the Sunnywood Care Home. He liked to read the newspaper cover to cover every morning and was happy to discuss the topics of the day. He enjoyed using FaceTime to visit family and friends and chat about the current affairs and catch up on their lives. He loved working around the yard and was known throughout town as having one of the nicest looking yards. The neighbours recently shared that he was on his riding lawn mower a few weeks ago clearing the leaves around his yard.
Dad, your wisdom, attention to detail, your humour and love for mom and our family will be dearly missed. We will celebrate your life at a later date in the new year. We love and miss you.
Rest easy John, ‘til we meet again!
You are so loved!

I first met Johnny when I delivered his newspaper. Later I went on to work with him making newsprint. He was always full of pep! He enjoyed a full life. May his lasting memories carry you through these sad times. My condolences. Vic Desrosiers
