BRYAN CHARLES NICHOLS

May 7, 1939 – October 15, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Bryan Charles Nichols, age 86 on October 15, 2025. He died surrounded by his family at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, Manitoba. Although Bryan’s health had been declining for several years, he was always a “gentle giant” right to the end of his life.

Bryan will be lovingly remembered by his two sons and their families, Todd and Dean (Lucy), by his grandchildren, Trevor (Ainsley), Jessica (Josh); Thomas (Michelle), Cory, Drake (Lauren), Dana, Lucas and Nick (Emily) and by his great-grandchildren, Colby and Danica, Jenessa and Jordyn, Nolan, Hayden and Gunner. In addition, Bryan leaves behind by his brother, Campbell; and many close nieces, nephews, extended family and many, many friends.

Bryan was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Gwen; by his parents, Dewitt and Christine; daughter-in-law Liz; by his brother Bill; and his sister Betty.

Bryan was a very well-respected, well-known and deeply liked resident of Dominion City. Throughout his life Bryan served his community in so many ways. He served 51 years as a volunteer firefighter, many years as a municipal councillor, and he was a long-standing board member of the Southeast Regional Health Authority. Bryan was a soft-spoken man, but he wasn’t afraid to fight hard for the things that were important to him. Bryan was a driving force behind many successful local projects including the construction of Abbeyfield House, which he eventually resided at himself after Gwen passed away.

Bryan loved his family deeply. He was easy going, so kind and so patient. Bryan will be missed by so many. We take comfort in knowing that he has been reunited with the love of his life, Gwen and with all those he loved who have passed on before him.

The family wishes to thank the incredibly caring staff at the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris, and at Abbeyfield House in Dominion City where Bryan spent his final years. Words cannot begin to express our gratitude to you all.

See you on the other side, Big Dad.

A Celebration of Life gathering will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the Dominion City Community Hall located at 31 McKercher Street in Dominion City, MB.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Bryan’s memory can be made to The Roseau Crossing Heritage Pool in Dominion City or to any other local community charity.

Hi Uncle

Im sorry it has taken so long to say what's in my heart. So many things to say to you. You were a guiding light in my life and I could never thank you for all that you did for me and my entire family. You were kind, hilarious and a very patient man. 😊 You will be missed by us all so very much.

You were always quick with an answer when Ed and I asked if you were behaving. No matter how tired you were you always looked us in the eye and smiled and said " just like a minister".

You will be missed so very much. You and Aunty were our surrogate mom and dad and we loved you like a child loves their parents

Todd and family Dean Lucy and family

We love you. Our sincerest condolences 🙏

Todd and Bryan's entire Family,

I was saddened to hear Bryan's passed away. I got to know Bryan's through MASBO, The Manitoba Association of School Business Official's. We chatted at meetings and event through MASBO and at the occasional Golf Course. We sometimes did Business between Divisions as well. Bryan's was a mentor to me in ways he likely didn't even know and I respected him and admired him.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers and I extend my deepest and most sincere Sympathies and Condolances.

🥰🙏

I worked with Bryan for many years at Boundary School Division Office. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when needed, and offer his advise and support. He was a " kind gentle man" who wore many hats. I cherished his friendship and we had many good laughs. We should have written a book on all the transportation stories we heard. Rest in Peace Bryan. You will be missed by Todd, Dean and their respective families. ❣️

It was an honour to have known Bryan, a gentleman and a very generous person.

It was always great to have a conversation with, humour, some kind words with a warm heart, didn't seem to get to excited about much but always ready to help and support the community.

Brayan was a good man, he will be missed by everyone, his legacy will live on.

Rest in Peace 🙏🏻

It was an honour and privilege to have had the opportunity to work with Bryan during my 10 years in Boundary School Division. Bryan was as capable and devoted a public servant as anyone could have wished for. He was commensurately devoted to his family and to his community. Small towns can continue to thrive as long as they are lucky enough to have people such as Bryan!

We have many great memories of Bryan through the years. From the earlier years when we used to party and go camping with him and Gwen. Bryan had an infectious laugh and a kind heart, always ready to lend a helping hand. He was a devoted husband to his wife Gwen, who he cared for through her illnesses. for many years. We remember Bryan with love and laughter. Rest easy big guy!

A great and loving man. A man who you always knew backed over more bridges than anyone has driven over, and he always made sure to tell you followed by his bellowing laughter. I'll miss you, uncle B, and your amazing wit!

So many good memories of an amazing uncle. One I remember was during a visit(and a few "pops") someone kept bugging him in fun, and he replied by putting his hand out and said, Step up here and let's have a look at you, which had the group in Tears laughing. Will miss you and remember you.
