RHONDA LEAH NOBISS

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Rhonda Leah Nobiss (Knowles) announces her sudden passing on Saturday, March 3rd, 2018 at her residence in Stony Mountain, MB. Rhonda’s memory will be cherished by her children, Joshua, Meagan, Chelsea, Cassidy, and their father, Gerald. She will also be greatly missed by her mother, Joyce Ann, brother and sisters, Merle, Darcy (Roxy), Shelley (Kyle), as well as her niece Jasmine and nephew Jesse. Rhonda is predeceased by her father, John Harvey Knowles and brother-in-law Doug Paluk.

Rhonda was born on March 27th, 1970 in Ste Anne, Manitoba to Joyce Ann and John Harvey. Throughout her childhood, Rhonda and her family frequently moved. Despite a rough upbringing, she maintained a positive outlook on her childhood by sharing her favourite memories. While living in Gypsumville, she and her family raised chickens, ducks and geese which contributed to her hard work ethic. She and her siblings often played outside, where Rhonda picked up her love for skating, off-roading, and her love for country air.

Rhonda and her family moved to Gimli in 1984. She attended Gimli Composite High School, where she met Joy, Kelly and Elisabeth (Tinker). Throughout her teenage years, Rhonda worked at a variety of places in Gimli. On her days off, you could find Rhonda cruising dirt roads, causing mischief with her friends or enjoying herself at the Viking.

In the summer of 1992, Rhonda and Gerald were introduced by mutual friends while he was in Gimli for a plumbing course. They hit it off and not long after, they welcomed their first born, Joshua on November 14th, 1993. Rhonda found a new passion in motherhood and welcomed the twins, Meagan and Chelsea on August 28th, 1997. The twins were soon followed by Cassidy, on Gerald’s birthday, July 20th, 1998.

Rhonda and Gerald decided they wanted to raise their family in the tranquility of the country. In the fall of 1998, they found their family home in Argyle, Manitoba. Rhonda and Gerald were married on May 8th, 1999 at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Rhonda decided to dedicate her days to being a stay at home mom. She embraced the open country life, creating many wonderful memories with her children such as outdoor picnics, cloud-gazing, playing at the nearby park in the summer and the skating rink in the winter. While enjoying motherhood, Rhonda continued to maintain her own interests. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and cleaning the house to music. In 2002, she took her love for cleaning to the next level when she pursued a new path as a small business owner.

In October of 2003, while running her first cleaning business, Rhonda began a new chapter of her life as a single mother. In effort to turn over a new leaf, she purchased their beloved family dog, Lucy. During the next few years, she had multiple ventures in the cleaning industry which ultimately led to her last job as the housekeeping manager at the Humphrey Inn in Winnipeg. Unfortunately, her time at the Humphrey Inn was cut short due to health complications.

In recent years, Rhonda struggled with a variety of family and health issues. In 2016, Rhonda moved to Stony Mountain, Mb. While in her new apartment, Rhonda rediscovered her love for reading and writing poetry. She benefited from the close relationship with her children as they stepped up to help support her through her struggles. Her passing will leave a void in her children’s lives. She will be forever remembered by many as a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend.

A celebration of life was held at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, March 16th, 2018 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church of Winnipeg, 603 Wellington Crescent.

​
