NORMAN MANASSEH JARVIS

March 18, 1941 – April 21, 2026

It is with profound sadness, yet with peace, we announce the passing of Norman Manassah Jarvis on April 21, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at the age of 85. Norman was born in Johnson’s Point Village, Antigua W.I., on 18 March 1941 to Victor and Martha Jarvis. Norman was raised with care by his stepmother, Vivian Jarvis, after the passing of his mother at a young age. He was predeceased by his sisters, Mrs. Alberta Samuel and Mrs. Irma Abraham, and his brother, Strickland Jarvis.

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Hyllerene (née Nicholas); his sons, Olsen and his wife Phyllis, Andre and his wife Sherry, and Darren; his stepchildren, Byron and Crystal Cooke; his brothers, Casper Jarvis, Ishmael Jarvis, Curtis Jarvis, and Glen Jarvis; and his sister, Mrs. Joycelyn Charles. Also, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. His legacy also lives on through his cherished grandchildren: Asante, Nicholynn, Jamil, Mariah, and Isaiah.

At the age of 7, Norman and his family moved to St. John's, Antigua, where he attended St. John's Boys Elementary School, then Hill Secondary School, where he excelled in math. He began his working career with Dew's and Company in Antigua, then later at Jolly Beach Hotel. He then migrated to Tortola, BVI, where he worked for a short time. He returned to Antigua and worked with the Virgin Islands National Bank, then the First Pennsylvania Bank, as a loan manager.

In 1977, Norman moved with his family to Canada, settling in Winnipeg, where he demonstrated a tireless work ethic, earning his Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation while working full-time. He retired from the Workers Compensation Board as an auditor, in 2007

Norman was a man of many talents and interests. He was as comfortable balancing books as he was with car repair or renovating his home. A self-taught piano player, he had the gift of playing the piano, keyboard, and organ by ear. On weekends, he could be found hunting for treasures at garage sales and auctions with his buddy Clyde Headley. He also enjoyed sports and loved cheering on the West Indies cricket team and his favourite tennis players. In his quiet times, he enjoyed being in nature, sitting among the trees at the cottage and sailing on the river on his pontoon boat.

Whether you knew him as Norman, Norm, Uncle Norman, Granddad, Daddy or Dad, his presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. The family extends their sincere gratitude to the staff of 1B and 4B at Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, or the Diabetes Foundation of Manitoba.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at St. Mary’s Anglican Church (3830 Roblin Blvd) Winnipeg. Officiating Pastor Chris Salstrom

A reception will follow.

Those we love don't go away.

They walk beside us day by day,

Unseen, unheard but always near,

STILL LOVED, STILL MISSED.

WE LOVE YOU DEAR.

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN.

Hyllerene- My condolences to you and your family on your loss. He was a true gentleman and a good friend. I enjoyed working with him at WCB. His voice still echos in my ears "Whats going on for the weekend ?" Our loss is heaven's gain. Rest in peace buddy. Till we meet again.
