EVELYN OGIBOWSKI

August 27, 1943 – November 9, 2025

With the love of her children, on Sunday morning November 9, 2025 Evelyn Ogibowski (Chastko) age 82 took her final steps to be reunited with her beloved “Tony”.

Leaving to mourn her passing are her children, Roy, Angela, Anita, Tammy; their spouses, Kim Caughlin, Steven Forbes, Jeff Luif, Kyle Rostosky; 10 grandchildren, and one great grandchild, Vanessa Ogibowski Monica (Derek/Beau Marquart), Nicholas Ogibowski, Nick & Katie Lanyon, Josh & Ben Forbes, Madison & Meagan Luif and Paisley Rostosky. Along with many other family and friends.

Evelyn was born August 27, 1943 to her parents, Joseph/Margaret (Duchminsky) Chastko, on their family farm near Jackfish Lake MB. Living in a multi-generational home, Mom’s earliest teachings were rooted in faith, traditions and family values. Evelyn left the farm at age 17 and travelled to Toronto to live with extended family and found work in the office of an oil company. Missing her family greatly, Evelyn returned to Manitoba, now calling Winnipeg home. Prior to marrying the love of her life, Evelyn worked for Marshall Wells, the motor vehicle branch and the treasury branch of the provincial government.

Anthony and Evelyn married after the fall harvest of 1965. Soon after they purchased the family home on Hoddinott Road in East St. Paul. Mom made the decision to stay home and nurture her family. With her own children in school, Evelyn took on child care for several families in the community and became affectionately named “Evy”. In 1994 she proudly became a Baba, it was a title she relished. Mom always liked to be part of a community and that led her to a job at Ludwick Catering where she enjoyed the companionship of the other women in the kitchen.

Evelyn loved to do puzzles, read, crochet and to create seasonal decorations which lovingly adorned the family home. During the summer months she grew a large garden, canning and freezing her bounty. In the evenings, Mom found solace by chasing the push lawnmower around the vast lawn and watering her flower beds. Over the winter months Mom enjoyed her hockey. The early years of listening to the Winnipeg Jets on the radio started a tradition of family Jets watch parties.

Evelyn enjoyed volunteering with the Heart and Stroke Foundation and the local community and figure skating clubs.

As life changed, Evelyn’s grace, steadfast disposition and convictions served her well. She blessed our hearts with her life, her laughter and her love. She will be missed greatly.

The family would like to thank the staff at Residence Despins and Riverview Health Centre for their caring compassion and support of both Mom and our family.

As per Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place. A private internment of both Anthony and Evelyn will take place at St. Boniface Cemetery.

As her and Tony wished, a single joint Celebration of Life will take place from 4:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2025 at the East St. Paul Banquet Hall (266 Hoddinott Rd.)

Although I didn't have many interactions with Evelyn, the times I did were filled with her love and warmth. The way for me to know Evelyn the best is through my sister in law, her daughter, Anita. These woman are as close to "Angels on Earth" you'll ever meet. A beautiful family is left to carry her memories with joy and so much love. May you rest in peace Evelyn, with the love of your life. We promise to be here for your children and loved ones. You were an amazing, graceful lady. 🙏🤍
