KAREN BONITA OLAFSON

July 7, 1964 – October 14, 2022

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Karen Bonita Olafson (Roche) on Oct.14th 2022 in her home in Winnipeg at the age of 58 years.

She is survived by their common law partner of 25 years, Lonnie; her loving childern Gage and Raith; her siblings, Kathy (Darrell), Darlene, Raymond (Brenda), Debbie (Bruce), Dean (Paulette), Dexter (Wendy), Wanda, Jonas (Tanya); and her numerous nieces and nephews.  She will also be missed by many other family and friends.  She was predeceased by her mother Phyllis Roche and father Arthur Roche, sister-in-law Karen, brothers-in-law Alvin and Pete, and nephews Ian, Kelvin and James.

Karen grew up on the homestead in Hnausa, MB and attended school in Riverton, MB wearing the same outfits as her twin sister Kathy until they were old enough to advocate for their own styles.  The pair were very close, always looking out for each other.  She had an amazing talent for drawing breath-taking pictures with just a pencil, we’ll never forget those art pieces.  Karen was a very intelligent, beautiful, and outgoing person, who loved to have fun.

Karen had Gage in 1996 and Raith in 1998, those boys became her life, and she was never far from them.  Karen was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2016, the boys (and their father Lonnie) had been taking care of her ever since, their dedication and love for their mother reflects on how Karen raised them.

In tears we saw you sinking,

We watched you fade away,

You suffered much in silence,

You fought so hard to stay.

You faced your task with courage,

Your spirit did not bend,

But still you kept on fighting

Until the very end.

God saw you getting tired,

When a cure was not to be,

So He put His arms around you,

And whispered, "Come to Me".

So when we saw you sleeping

So peaceful, free from pain,

We could not wish you back,

To suffer that again.

You didn't deserve what you went through,

So He took you home to rest.

God's garden must be beautiful,

For He only takes the best.

Karen’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

There there are no words that can help ease the pain of losing a partner, mother, twin, aunt. She was an amazing person who will be sadly missed.   She was blessed to have a family who were able to care for her at home.  Know that you are in our thoughts. Uncle Gordon and Cousin Karen

My sincerest condolences to Karen's family and friends.  I consider myself so fortunate to have been able to share my growing-up years with Karen, from '74 to '81.  Thank you Karen, for being a part of my life.

Karen (Roche) Olafson, our niece, was a very beautiful young lady - so pleasant and bubbly all the time. She had an amazing smile that showed her inner caring and warm character.   Our condolences to Lonnie and her children Gage and Raith, and special mention to her twin sister, Kathy, who was very close to Karen and loved her so much. Condolences to the whole Roche families and many of her friends who are totally in shock with Karen's passing.  Karen was an amazing artist. The video posted with her obituary was excellently done and portrayed her through the years. Amazing!!! The obituary was very well-written and an excellent poem that depicts her life, "For He only takes the best". We miss her phone calls and even though she was not feeling well, she never ever complained to us.  Love Uncle Lloyd & Auntie Jeannette  ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Karen will always be remembered for her bright smile and energetic laugh.  I had the pleasure of sharing my education in Riverton with her and Kathy.  She always had a smile on her face and a cheery greeting.❤

Our deepest sympathy to Karen’s family.  I will always cherish this memory of Karen.   One night Karen, Kathy, Heather V, Lori Johannesson and myself were at the house at Finns. Karen decided to make bannock it was a wonderful time, I think there was a lot of smoke in the kitchen, ha ha.  What a beautiful sun rise that morning.  Love Always, Elaine and Darren Muzyka❤️🙏
