Charlotte Olson
CHARLOTTE EVELYN OLSON
April 25, 1931 – May 7, 2021
Peacefully, on May 7, 2021 at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg, we said goodbye to our loving mother, grandmother and good friend.
Charlotte is survived by her sister Dorothea; children, Barry (Sonya), Kim (Matt), Edwin (Deborah), and Dwayne (Jeanette); as well as her ten grandchildren, Erik, Olivia, Georgia Mae, Ella, Tyler, Annika, Lauren, Charli, Austin, and Cheyenne. Charlotte is predeceased by her husband Gordon; brother Donny; and parents, Arthur and Helena.
Charlotte was born and raised in the tiny hamlet of Marchwell, Saskatchewan. Her family operated the general store just across the border in Harrowby, Manitoba where the kids would work part time while attending school. After high school, Charlotte worked at the hospital in Russell, Manitoba before moving to Winnipeg where she started her career as a bank teller. She worked for several years with the TD Bank on Portage Avenue. It was during this time when she met her husband Gordon. Charlotte and Gordon were married in 1961 and together they raised a family, established Fort Garry Refrigeration & Air Conditioning and were active members of their community.
Charlotte loved to draw. The notepad by the phone was her sketchbook. In her younger days she displayed her creative talents making posters for the store, promoting community events for her father’s Big Band. Charlotte enjoyed gardening and caring for her tomato plants, canning and pickling. She always looked forward to hosting her bridge club and getting out with her curling group. Mostly, Mom loved people. She was upbeat and welcoming and she always made time for a chat or a cup a tea. Her home was her happy place. The Fort Garry bungalow buzzed with activity and was host to many gatherings with family and friends. Charlotte was a genuine friend to many and will be missed, especially by her close neighbours and dear friends of over 60 years, Elaine Dale and Lorraine Roth.
She was patient, kind, and generous to a fault. Charlotte always put the interests of those around her ahead of herself. She devoted hours of her time to accommodate the busy schedules of her four active children and she never turned down the opportunity to spend time with her beloved grandchildren. Quite simply, Mom was the glue that held it all together.
At the age of 88 Charlotte moved to Riverview Health Centre. Her friendly disposition and warm smile did not go unnoticed and allowed her to make new friends there. Mom celebrated her 90th birthday at Riverview last month. Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Riverview for their care during her stay and for their comfort and compassion during her final days.
A family service will be held at a later date. In the meantime, Charlotte’s family kindly requests that all of her friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour her memory by watching the photo-biography above. If there ever comes a day
When we can’t be together,
Keep me in your heart,
I’ll stay there forever
