STANLEY "BONES" OMAN

April 16, 1943 - March 9, 2020

The Family of Stanley Arthur Oman regret to announce his passing on March 9, 2020 with his wife, son, daughter, and granddaughter by his side at St. Boniface Hospital.

He is Survived by his wife of 53 loving years Lena; sons James Oman and Family, Jason Oman, John Oman and Family; daughter Jennifer Oman and Family; stepson Gerald (Dino) and Family, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, many grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; in-laws and Friends.

He was born in Fort Churchill April 16, 1943, a brother to 6 siblings; Rennie, John, Albert, Horace, Charlie, Cathy, and Edna. Stan spent his early years in Churchill playing hockey, baseball, and Curling. He won many awards and trophies in that time. He befriended Gavin Laurie who later went on to be his best man when Stan Married the love of his life Lena on December 28, 1966. Gavin is hopeful that they all don’t end up in jail again like they did on Stan and Lena's Wedding day…most of you reading this will understand that joke.

Together Stan and Lena started to build their family in 1967 with the arrival of their first-born son James, in 1972 they welcomed their second son Jason and in 1973 their third son John. Then finally, they were gifted with their only daughter Jennifer, in 1974.

Stan had a knack for numbers, which opened door ways for him and ultimately led him to numerous locations throughout Canada; including The Yukon, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Ontario as well as many others. He always made friends quickly wherever he went and continued to stay in touch when he left.

Stan survived a massive heart attack in 2011 and was forced to retire. The following year he was diagnosed with Cancer, along with numerous other health issues that he continued to battle until the time of his death.

The family would like to send a special thank-you to the nurses, doctors and staff at St. Boniface Hospital for all of the hard work, care and compassion shown towards Stan during is stay.

We are sad to see the news Stan passed away. I worked with Stan for many years in the mining sector. He was a great person who worked tirelessly, accurately. His penmanship was the envy of many. He was well respected by those he worked with, he was kind and giving. I recall him bringing bannock to work for his friends and coworkers. Of course Lena had made it and was always delicious. His humor, kindness and efforts were appreciated by all. Those who new him will not forget him. Our condolences to the family.  Dick and Sharon Shead and family.

I will miss my eldest brother Stan very much.  I was his youngest sister Edna and when I was a small child growing up in Churchill, I remember I was always happy to see Stan and one of my memories of him was; I was playing outside S&M store winter time sliding down the big snow banks and my brother came along, saw me and swung me up in his arms and said; baby girl are you having fun gave me a kiss an hug, dug into his pocket, gave me a bunch of loose change and told me buy a chocolate...Listening to the sharing yesterday I was reminded of how loving my dear brother was ❤🤗🙏🏼❤🤗🙏🏼  He was my favourite brother and always called me his baby girl the way he does Jennifer my niece...God bless you brother you are no longer suffering and in pain...your with Mom Dad granny all of our relations 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I attended the service yesterday and was glad to have been able.  Gavin (Lawrie) officiated and did a bang up job.  I saw many faces present and passed that I hadn't seen in years or a few months, none the less it was great to see everyone despite the circumstances.  The service was nicely done and I'm sure he would have been happy with it.  To the family, I'm saddened by your loss and there are no words that can help to ease the pain but you have each other and that's important. Bigs hugs to Lena and the family.❤ April Lundie

My my condolences to Lena and family. I have known Stan my entire life. I vividly remember watching Stan play hockey at the Fort Churchill arena. Stan was my local hockey hero, I couldn’t wait until I could play in the same league. Unfortunately it never happened, but our friendship developed as I grew older and it seemed like Stan got younger. Dale & Diana Brydges and family
