DAVID JAMES PARK
October 3, 1941 - September 21, 2024
On September 21, 2024 at St. Boniface General Hospital, David James Park passed away peacefully at the age of 82. Twelve days short of his 83rd birthday.
David leaves to cherish his beloved wife of 56 years, Nina; son Shawn (Brenda); grandson Kopeland; granddaughters, Destiny and Cansas; son Jeff (Adria); granddaughter Aria; daughter Tania; granddaughter Tiyanna (Trent); great granddaughter Kyza; grandsons, Jahrome and Jahvaun; brother Ken (Kathy); brothers-in-law, Bill (Hertzel) and Alex (Robert); along with many cousins, nieces, and nephews, close family members, and wonderful friends.
David was predeceased by his parents, Richard and Mary Park; his in-laws, Peter and Zoya Naumoff; and brother-in-law Nick Naumoff.
David was born and raised in Winnipeg. Upon graduating from Technical Vocational High School, he worked various jobs. In September of 1963, he made the decision to explore another career option and joined the Winnipeg Fire Department. David greatly enjoyed being a Firefighter, especially the camaraderie within the Firefighter family. David was a member of the Firefighters curling team and played the saxophone in the Firefighters band. David retired in 1998 with the rank of Captain and acting District Chief. After his well-earned retirement, David and Nina enjoyed new adventures which included going on 3 different cruises and driving to Arizona while listening to the 1950's and 60's rock and roll music and the Willie's Roadhouse satellite radio stations. David was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Peter's Council #12319 and most recently St. Theresa Council #9425. He was very proud to be a Knight.
David and Nina spent 22 years wintering in Mesa Arizona where they enjoyed golfing during the day and many games of cribbage and pinochle in the evenings and always making the time to fit in some reading. When the harsh Canadian winters were over, David and Nina would return home to Winnipeg and prepare for their summer home in Stonewall Quarry Park for over 45 years. Campfires every evening while enjoying a cold one (Labatt’s Blue) and sharing a pizza. David and Nina were inseparable and wherever they went, you can be sure that their four-legged constant companion was alongside them, most recently their dog Nate.
David will be remembered for his keen sense of humour, quick wit and his love for animals. He was a kind man with a big heart.
The family would like to extend great appreciation and respect to the nursing staff and doctors that looked after David during his stay at St. Boniface General Hospital. Your compassion and hard work did not go unnoticed.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00am on Monday, October 7, 2024 at St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church 3597 Main Street, West Saint Paul, with Father Kelly Wilson and Winnipeg Fire Department Chaplain Ian Scott officiating. A private interment to follow at a later date.

We had many memories of Dave & Nina while camping at Quarry Park & Campground in Stonewall, MB. Dave was always so cheerful and fun when in his company. We also travelled south to Arizona to soak up the winter sun with Dave Nina. Diesel Dave, as we called him, loved his Dodge Ram to pull their fifth-wheel trailer. Thanks, Dave for the wonderful memories of years passed. RIP.

My husband Bob and I met Dave and Nina through hockey , when our son Paul and their son Jeff played together on the same team. Dave and Nina lived just down the street from us. Dave was very friendly, loved to gab about our kids. Our kid's hockey games were more fun because we had Dave and Nina to enjoy them with. Nina, I'm so glad we met recently and were able to catch up on the past years. I've very recently been where you are today, and and I send my heartfelt condolences and sympathy to you and your family.

My Dearest Nina - To know Dave was truly to love him. He was such a kind, sweet and gentle man and I was ever so fortunate to have had a wonderful telephone conversation with him while he was in the hospital. I will think of him often; he will not be forgotten. Sending lots of love to you and all your family.

I knew Dave but never really worked with him because we were on different shifts. I remember him as a Captain and being kind and welcoming when I came into his station on a shift change. I am glad he enjoyed his retirement with his family for as long as he did. My condolences to his family.
