Robert Parker

ROBERT STUART PARKER
January 28, 1943 – May 6, 2026
After a lengthy illness, Robert Stuart Parker passed away suddenly at Riverview Health Centre on May 6, 2026, at the age of 83.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 58 years, June; his son Michael (Kirsten); son-in-law Lance Dimond; and his “favourite” grandson Graham. He will also be lovingly remembered by his brothers John (Pat) and Bob (Carole); brother-in-law Gary (Claudia); sister Sharron; nephew Robb; nieces Christie, Tina, and April; as well as many extended family members and dear friends.
Robert was predeceased by his parents, Stuart and Margaret Parker; his in-laws, Gus and Elsie Lemke; and his daughter, Kerri Dimond.
Born and raised in Winnipeg, Robert enjoyed many summers at the family cottage during his younger years. Family was at the centre of his life: he especially loved Sunday lunches after church with Gus and Elsie, family gatherings, and long road trips. He also cherished travelling with loved ones, creating lasting memories on trips to Halifax, Hawaii, Las Vegas, Palm Springs, and an unforgettable visit to U.S. Bank Stadium to watch his beloved Minnesota Vikings play live. In his final difficult years, those happy memories — and plans for one more road trip to Kenora — brought him comfort.
Robert worked for Goodyear Tire, Hill Security Van Lines, Portage Cartage Ltd., and eventually Canada Post, where he retired in 2004 after many years of service. Wherever he worked, Bob was known for his humour, warm laugh, and ability to make people smile — even if it meant putting on a gorilla suit to do it.
Music was one of the great passions of Robert’s life. Inspired as a teenager after hearing a big band perform, he taught himself to play the saxophone and later took up the drums. His musical career began in high school and continued for decades, performing in lounges, nightclubs, weddings, and concerts throughout Manitoba, Ontario, and Minnesota.
If you ever wanted to hear one of Bob’s best stories, all you had to do was ask about his years on the road playing music. While music was his greatest passion right to the end of his life, he loved the friendships he developed in his years of playing just as deeply. For all those that had the chance to play in a band with him, or just sit in on a session – know that it meant so much to him and it was never forgotten. On the last day of his life, Bob was making plans to go back to Times Change and sit in just one more time.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all the friends and family who visited, called, and supported Robert through his final years. Your kindness, friendship, and care meant so much to him.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

Dear June and Family,
Gery and I were saddened by the news of Bob's passing. We knew from your updates he had not been well for some time and in some ways this news was a blessing. Given we met in the 60's, we enjoyed a great many fond memories of Bob and you over the years. I remember our our walks through Assiniboine Park where Bob and I pretended to be "different" people. Also, "The Del Rios" family with its various members and gigs was a great source of enjoyment and sometimes laughter. Winnipeg was called home by many musicians who went on to international success. The Manitoba Music Museum is an historical treasure and includes a listing for The Del Rios:

We are blessed to have known Bob for so many years.

Dear June and family, so sorry to hear of Bob's passing. It was a shock to me when I read it in the paper. So many good memories of Bob. I remember him on his back, slidding across the stage at the pool room, playing a sax solo. Standing on his bass drum, while playing. The bass drum was oval instead of round from him standing on it . Him with his 67 Chevelle, and me with my 67 Mustang GT, coming from the Village Inn after finishing our gig, dragging from stop light to stop light all the way down Portage Ave. Just great times!!
The first time he sang brown eyed girl, he wasn't sure about doing it, but I pushed him. It turned out so good, we couldn't stop him from singing after that!! And oh!! The music!! when the band was in the grove, there was nothing like it. Just four or five guys playing as one!! Beautiful. Just great memories I will miss him.
sincerely
Steve Pow

Bob will be sadly missed as I knew Bob for many years. We played together for a lot of years and that's why I picked up music in the first place. The video and obituary were beautifully done. We enjoyed getting together with Bob, June and family on many occasions. Lots of wonderful memories were made. May Bob rest in eternal peace. 🙏
Love ❤️ and caring thoughts always.
