Thinking of you – Betty, Cameron & Joel at this difficult time.  I was so sad to hear about Larry.  He had a beautiful family as that video shows.  I’m sure you will all miss him so much.  Hope you can reflect on the memories you have made as a family and all the good times.  He had a lot of great qualities that made for an awesome big brother!  Since he was 17 years older than me, if I had problems at school with bullies he would come to the rescue.  Once I remember telling him about a kid at school that used to call me names and chase me home everyday.  One day he told me he would be picking me up, and when I came running out of the school he was waiting by his car.  I jumped into the car as the boy was chasing me.  When Larry saw him, he stopped him, held him by his t-shirt and in his most serious voice told him to leave me alone.  I was never bothered again by him and remember feeling very proud that I had someone there to help me out.  He was also very generous and giving of his time – he picked me up a few times when I first had Kaitlyn and took me out for coffee – it was so nice to get out of the house.  I don’t know how often he came to boost my car or change a tire, sometimes in -30! I will never forget his kindness. Lots of love to you all, xo Kim ❤

❤ Dearest Auntie Betty. I'm so sad to hear this news. I remember the last time we were all together, with Mom and Dad and my two girls. What a wonderful day that was. I'll  remember the twinkle in Uncle Larry's eyes and his laughter. Sending you hugs and peace for the days ahead. Love you, Carla xo

Mr. Penner was awesome. He shared knowledge and an easy smile. A few of my favorite memories. He used me as a labourer to get his projects done, from carrying an the heaviest piece of slate for a pool table, or lifting the cab of a truck, from one frame to another.   He'd always be in the back "shed" working on one thing or another.  Happy to tell a tale or two. He was a good man. What seemed like a father son moment for him and Joel, choosing a puppy (Jake - my sons name coincidentally).  He invited me along.  I think maybe just to see me crammed in the back jumpseat of an S10 all the way to Sainte Rose du Lac and back again. Even in the tight space, it was a fun trip. He and Joel together fostered my love of motorcycles, my first three were all Penner family hand me downs. He married and incredibly kind woman, and raised great kids. I will miss Larry Penner.

Thank you for sharing all of these beautiful memories of my brother Larry. He sure was a good-looking guy, wasn’t he!  He had some good life-long friends, a few of whom I remember from our youth. Life was not easy growing up, but he found an excellent wife and had two sons that were very well brought up and we always enjoyed visiting with them and their families. I would call that a success. As a child, I was very much a tom-boy and would follow him around climbing trees and rooftops. He also watched out for me when other kids would tease me. He was tough on the outside, but we knew there was a soft side to him. We will surely miss him very much but, as you know, we are confident of God’s loving promise of a time when we will see our loved ones again….love Claude and Shirley❤

Larry is my younger brother. He loved his wife and his family.  He was inquisitive, wanting to know how things work and how to fix them if they get broken.  He was generous and quick with a joke or funny story or  to share a meal.  He will always be alive to me, as is our mother and his older brother Dave.

Earlier this month I felt compelled to contact Larry and after several attempts we finally connected, and so I picked him up and went and had a long coffee and some good laughs...and Larry loved to laugh. He had that spontaneous loud explosive laugh that everybody around us felt...and with the laughter usually came tears flowing down his cheeks. We talked about the crazy times we had when I lived in the west end with Roy Rindahl and Gary Creptyk, about that hilarious time he dressed up as a girl and pretended to be my girlfriend and we fooled his poor mother, about when he rolled a road grater excavating up in Gillam and damaged his leg. Many stories like those and then the caring side he had when he bought out of his pocket a trophy for me when my sporting event didn't have the money ; how he never ever asked for anything from me ,only friendship. He never turned me down if I needed favour and never brought it up again. He was a true friend. We also talked about when Betty and He decided to get married and in the fall of 1969 he came pounding on my door and told me needed me... to be his Best man....so off all 3 of us went to Law Courts to start the process...and then to the Polynesian room to celebrate..That fast and they were married . Betty and Larry had pig roasts at their house in the summer and everyone was welcome..no need to bring anything ,just show up and they put on a big spread and invited the neighbors too. He talked about his health and was concerned over different issues to do with that. We had a good talk as I hadn't seen him in a few years and was glad to have the opportunity again, and then we left the restaurant and I drove him home...and when he got out and walked away his head was down and sadly I wished we could have talked longer. Then two days later He left us. He was a good friend...in the more than 5 decades I knew Larry ,we never had a cross word or disagreement between us and I could count on him no matter what I needed. We shared a lot of laughter and fun times and I consider myself blessed to have had him as my friend. May the Good Lord walk with you to your new home. My condolences to Betty, Larry jr, Joel and their families and to Larry's sisters and their families . Goodbye my friend Bill
