PAULINE (SHUWERA) PENNINGTON

(née Paulina Shuwera)

December 20, 1935 – July 11, 2024

Pauline Pennington passed away peacefully at home in Winnipeg, MB on July 11th, 2024. She was 88 years old.

Born Dec. 20, 1935 in Caliento, MB to Iwan (John) Shuwera and Palahna Bogucki. She was the 12th child of 17 growing up on the farm; she loved being outside hanging around and helping her father, rather than being in the house and kitchen.

She attended Strand School finishing grade eight and moved to Winnipeg to find work. One of her first jobs was packing spices at Brooke Bond. She met John Pennington and they were married on May 10, 1958. They purchased a house on Windsor Ave that was built by John’s grandfather. They had two daughters - Judith Lynn and Karen Louise.

They moved to Fort Garry to be closer to Manitoba Hydro where Dad worked. Pauline started a new job at the printing department at the University of Manitoba. She took night courses to complete her grade twelve by G.E.D.

Pauline became a secretary at Neighborhood Service Centre, where she met her future business partner – Richard Houston. They worked at Winnipeg Community Communications Inc doing community related videos and printing. They started a new printing company – Video Print.

She was also partners in a few used book stores. She continued working at Book Fair into her 70’s and helping anyone who asked. Pauline was a work-a-holic and found it hard to sit still. John and Pauline were divorced March 4th, 1981. She still remained close with John and Janine.

Her hobbies included 5 pin bowling, playing baseball, working on puzzles, solving various word puzzles, traveling, helping do things for other people and spending a lot of her free time helping raise her two grandsons – Matthew and Michael. She also spent time at her cottage in Belair, puttering around clearing land and working on her flowers. She could always count on her son-in-law Daniel to be there helping anytime she asked.

She has traveled across Canada from BC to Newfoundland, many of the US States, as well as Hawaii, Mexico, South America, Australia and Ukraine. She has many photo albums documenting all her travels.

Pauline is survived by three sisters - Josie Pankiw in Toronto, Sophie Melnychuk in Sundown, Elaine (Jim) Bodnar in Winnipeg / Richan, sister-in-law Sylvia Shmigelsky in Peachland, two daughters – Judy (Dale) and Karen (Brian), two grandsons – Matthew (Kyla) and Michael (Brittany), six great grandchildren – Torsten, Jocelyn, Wyatt, Remington, John and Taylor, as well as many nieces and nephews, John (Janine) Pennington and son-in-law Daniel Wiwchar.

Pauline is predeceased by both parents – Iwan and Palahna, sisters – Mary, Ann, Lynn, Olga and brothers – Bill, Matt, Mike, Steve, John, Peter, Ben, Marko, Wilmer and great granddaughter – Katherine.

The family wishes to thank her favorite long time daytime caregivers – Isabel Gomez, Sally Oplimo, Ewa P., Belle and Charlotte.

No flowers please. Donations can be made to Alzheimer's or a charity of your choice.

Cremation has already taken place by Ethical Death Care and a Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, August 5, 2024 at a new indoor venue at Seven Oaks School Division building - 1985 Grassmere Rd in West St Paul.

 “When tomorrow starts without me,

And I’m not there to see,

If the sun should rise and find your eyes

All filled with tears for me;

I wish so much you wouldn’t cry

The way you did today,

While thinking of the many things,

We didn’t get to say.

I know how much you love me,

As much as I love you,

And each time you think of me,

I know you’ll miss me too;

But when tomorrow starts without me,

Please try to understand,

That an angel came and called my name,

And took me by the hand,

And said my place was ready,

In heaven far above

And that I’d have to leave behind

All those I dearly love.

But as I turned to walk away,

a tear fell from my eye

For all my life, I’d always thought,

I didn’t want to die.

I had so much to live for,

so much left yet to do,

it seemed almost impossible,

That I was leaving you.

I thought of all the yesterdays,

The good ones and the bad,

The thought of all the love we shared,

And all the fun we had.

If I could relive yesterday,

Just even for a while,

I’d say good-bye and kiss you

And maybe see you smile.”

To our beautiful auntie pauline

i thought i saw your face today

in the sparkle of the morning sun

and then i heard the angel say,

Her work on earth is done

i thought i heard her voice today

then laugh her hearty laugh

and then i heard the angel say

there's peace little one at last

i thought i felt her touch today

in the breeze that rustled by

and then i heard the angel say

the spirit never dies

i thought that she had left me

for the stars so far above

and then i heard the angels say

she left you with her love

i thought that i would miss her

and never find me way

and then i heard the angels say

SHES WITH YOU EVERY DAY
