PETER EDWARD PERCHAL
August 18, 1926 – July15, 2024
It is with the deepest love that we announce the passing of Peter after a brief stay at the Victoria Hospital.
He was married to the love of his life, Patricia (née McGowan), for 67 wonderful years until her passing in 2017. Peter leaves behind a loving family: his daughter, Janice (Gary Laidlaw); and his sons, Jonathon and Paul (Thomas Bianco). He was a proud grandfather to Matthew Armstrong (Blair), Brittany Armstrong (Matt Ellis), and Eero Gaffney, and a great-grandfather to Lauren, Emily, and Henry Armstrong. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary (née Fedowicz) Perchal; and his brother and sister, Theo Cranen and Leona Gerrard. He will also be missed by his nieces and nephews, Mary Andes (née Gerrard) and the McGowan clan, Jim, Patti and Andrew and all their families.
Peter grew up in the north end of Winnipeg where in his younger years, he excelled at hockey. He was an avid golfer and curler all his adult life and loved a good game of bridge. His entire working career was spent at the Manitoba Telephone System, beginning as a linesman and leaving as a supervisor in the engineering department. He served as a reservist with the Winnipeg Grenadiers. Music was another great love of his life (from opera to ABBA) as were English Springer Spaniels (Robin and Happy).
Since 1947, Peter spent as much of the summer as possible at Victoria Beach, a place that remained close to his heart until the end of his life where he enjoyed playing golf and picking berries. In honour of his enduring love for Victoria Beach, his family will host a celebration of his life at the family cottage on August 18, which would be his 98th birthday. Please come prepared with stories to share about Peter.
We wish to thank the staff of wards 5N and 4S at Victoria Hospital for their compassionate and kind care during his final weeks.
If you wish to honour Peter, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Foundation or the Winnipeg Human Society.
Peter's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I got to know Peter when I worked at Dakota House. If I needed "Dad" advice - he was the one and he told it to you straight.. A perfect gentleman every day all the time. He couldn't wait for summer and his trips to the beach. His bag was packed at the crack of dawn. Will miss you Mr Perchal!

Peter was a faithful member of our Bridge Club at Dakota House, and many times was the lone male. He also kept us well supplied with new cards. He was so well liked by all and is already missed.
