KENNETH GEORGE PERKINS

May 29, 1942 - August 2, 2022

On August 2, 2022, Kenneth George Perkins passed away peacefully following a lengthy battle with cancer.

He will be sadly missed and remembered by his son, James (Joanne); grandchildren, Hayley, Thomas, and Jillian; sister-in-law, Barb; numerous nieces and nephews; his close and dear friend Lori; as well as other relatives and friends.

Kenn was born in Winnipeg, MB on May 29th, 1942. After graduating from the University of Manitoba, he pursued a lifelong interest in creative endeavours. He started his own animation studio in the mid 1960’s which over time expanded into special FX for TV in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s, and finally into Computer Generated Animation in 1985. He continued working until recently in Marketing/Advertising/Website Design.

Kenn was outgoing, outspoken, highly intelligent, and had a great sense of humor and passion for life.  Some of his interests included cooking (and eating), decorating, travelling (especially to Maui), photography, scuba diving, woodworking, painting, singing, and playing guitar.  Kenn loved to watch movies, but anyone who knew him understood there was no talking or other noises allowed during the movie!  He was a loyal Winnipeg Blue Bomber fan for many years. One of Kenn’s favorite quotes was “Chance favours the prepared mind”.

The family would like to thank Dr. Maged Nashed, the staff at the Liver Clinic, Palliative Care, and Grace Hospital Emergency Department for their care.  Also, special thanks to Melissa at Helping Hands Seniors Care for her support & care.

Kenn recently accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour and felt at peace knowing where his eternal resting place would be.

The family has had a private gathering in remembrance of Kenn.

Kenn's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page. Please also check back next week for a photo tribute video.

Kenn took a chance on me, a kid fresh out of animation school, a gave me an opportunity to break into the animation industry. I'm still animating commercials and CGI and the tips, tricks and mentoring from him is still relevant to this day. I admire his sharp business acumen, his phenomenal attention to detail, his unique sense of humor and how he valued his family - his son worked at the studio as well and his father would visit often. Lots of great and fun memories from those times at his animation studio, and my heartfelt condolences to Jim & Joanne.

We met Kenn a number of years ago through Lori.  Our memories include enjoying time at his pool and other occasions when we visited.  He was a thoughtful host and we could tell that he had a flair for cooking.  He made the best guacamole.  He had a sense of humor and was a good story teller.  Our sympathy and prayers to his family and his good friend Lori.

I had the pleasure of being Ken's dentist for some 40 years. Of the thousands of patients, Ken was one of the most memorable.  Our appointments/meetings were never run of the mill as we would discuss everything under the sun and sometime do a bit of dentistry.  He could look at you and through you so we could talk in different depths and ways. He was fresh and you'd never know what he would say.  Ken had his own timeline of when his appointment should be and so we worked on his schedule. (Sorry Ken, I always told you to come an hour earlier than your appointment time.) I remember going to a hotel by the airport, seeing Ken sing and act in a musical and he really was a great singer. His jokes were really funny and memorable.   He was a very talented person. After my retirement,  what I missed most is knowing what's happening to my patient's life, especially Ken! .  He is quite the handsome guy who knew how to live life to the fullest. Thanks for crossing paths with me Mr. Perkins and thanks your company. RIP.

I had only a short time to get know Kenn but in the time we did have, we had many laughs and really enjoyed each others company. We shared a love for good food, crime documentaries and business ideas. He always had great advice for me. I am so grateful for having known this man. He sure taught me alot! No more pain and suffering now Kenn... You will be forever missed my dear friend 💕 Melissa Blais- Helping Hands Senior Care

I worked with Kenn on many projects, particularly during his early days in his animation studio business. I particularly remember three commercials we did for Manitoba Hydro—or was it telephones. My age is showing. Either way they were long and complicated and he did a masterful job. I am particularly grateful for a phone call I received from him when he heard I would be doing for our infamous Peter  Nygard, warning me to be careful since he had difficulty getting paid for work he had done. I did a contact report for the most innocuous conversations.  When he tried to get away without paying after he made changes in direction, we had him. His own lawyer convinced him to pay and I actually got more than I had billed because my lawyer asked me to account for costs and services I normally would not have worried about. Kenn was extremely talented and did have a great sense of humor. My condolences to the whole family. Ron Pradinuk
