ERIC MACALLISTER PERRY

March 29, 1944 - May 9, 2023

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Eric Perry on May 9, 2023.

Eric was predeceased by his wife Bev in 2011. He leaves to mourn his passing his stepchildren Susan (Glen), Dean (Michelle), grandson Brett, Brett’s mother Monique, and his brother-in-law Jimmy and nephew Brian, Rhona, and Cameron in Scotland. He will be missed by his sister-in-law Roberta, brothers in law Murray & Colin (Mary), nieces & nephews Bonnie, Craig, Cam (Laura) & Chris, cousin Graeme (Joyce). Eric had many friends that he treasured who will deeply miss him, especially his dear friend Wes who has been with him for almost 50 years.

Eric was born March 29, 1944 in Kilwinning, Scotland and grew up in the coastal town of Largs. As a young man he embarked on a journey to Australia on a ship, visiting & staying in many ports of interest along the way.  This sense of adventure led him to travel to Canada where his cousin Nancy lived. He arrived in Canada in 1966 & became a Canadian citizen in 1974.

Eric worked for several years at Monarch Life Insurance and spent most of his career at the Addiction Foundation of Manitoba as a counsellor.

Eric & Bev were married in 1984. They moved to North Kildonan to be near Nancy, as she was on her own in an apartment. They lived in the same block on the river until Nancy's passing. Then they bought their house on Bronx Ave where they lived for 31 years. They loved living there surrounded by wonderful neighbors.

Eric & Bev enjoyed travelling & were especially fond of Mazatlan. After Bev’s passing, Eric travelled himself to Mexico, Florida, Arizona and Scotland for a couple of Christmases with his family. He adopted a cat named Sunshine & they kept each other company for the past 10 years. Eric blamed the cat for everything, the pills on the floor, missing remote control, his keys, anything he misplaced he said the cat did it.  Sunshine now lives with Eric’s dear friends Richard & Sue, enjoying their company & visits from Eric’s god-daughter Lindsay.

Friday evening dinners with Roberta & various friends were a staple for many years. He enjoyed going to the Y to swim & stay active. He volunteered for Meals on Wheels, at CancerCare and at the Humane Society.

Eric moved to the Cathedrale Manoir in 2020. He never failed to say how much he enjoyed & appreciated living there. He made many new friends & his door was always open.

The family would like to express their gratitude to everyone at the Manoir, especially Rhonda, Angele, Cheryl, Brent, Kay & Alice for their kind attention to Eric & Sunshine, especially over the past few months. We would also like to thank the staff at Grace Hospice for their gentle care of Eric. Even though his stay was short, it was of huge value to all of us.

Flowers gratefully declined. Donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba, Grace Hospice, or an animal shelter of your choice.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on June 3, 2023 at the Cathedrale Manoir, 321 de la Cathedrale.

Eric, (uncle Eric to my children Rena, Reggie and Marty) was a great guy, friend , uncle and husband to Auntie Bev.. Always was a jovial and good-natured person who was always positive and ready for a good laugh.  Only good memories remain of him. We will miss him. Paul (Jack) Bilodeau

I remember so many Saturday night bbqs at our house with Eric. He and my dad Wes had an extremely great friendship that not many people can say they have had in their lives. Our condolences to the family. Barb, Wes's daughter

Eric's cousin Susan is how I met Eric. He was very helpful to me when there was a sibling I became aware of that had been put up for adoption before my birth. Thank you Eric for your great insight. Susan and Richard are our dear friends ❤️.  They took Sunshine into their home which no doubt would have put Eric's mind at ease knowing Sunshine would have the best pampered life. Sorry for your loss. Great Photo! Wedding day?

Worked with Eric at Monarch Life. I remember his first day at work. He had on bright red socks. He was a great friend to both me and my husband. Was best man at our wedding. Will miss our talks by phone. Such a great sense of humour. ❤

What a wonderful picture of Eric!  This is how I remember him.  Worked with Eric so many years ago at Monarch Life.  I was able to sort of keep up with his life through our mutual friend Linda.  My sincere condolences to Eric's family and his many friends.  Lorraine ( was Arnason back than )
