ROBERT PETERS

June 2, 1947 – October 11, 2021

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Peters, our dear husband, dad, grandpa, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and friend.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Bev; daughter Mandy (André); grandchildren, Maya, Samuel and Luc; daughter-in-law Catherine; sister Deb (Johnny); brothers Gary and Richard (Sandy); brother-in-law Grant, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He is pre-deceased by his parents, Ken and Betty Peters; in-laws, Harold and Ethel Brewster; sister Susan; nephews Brett and Kevin; brother-in-law Dave and beloved son Michael.

Bob was born in Winnipeg on June 2nd, 1947, spending his early years on Talbot Ave in Elmwood and then moving to McMeans Ave in Transcona, where he spent most of his life, as it later became the home where he and wife Bev raised their family. He worked for Canada Post for 30 years and during his working years, he enjoyed weekends, time with neighbours, block parties, coaching softball, taking trips to the farm in Arnes, camping, and snowmobiling. Bob loved spending summers at the trailer and the farm with the family, listening to Maya play guitar around the fire, talking ATVs and fishing with Sam, and doing many projects with Luc.

A jack-of-all trades and handyman over the years, Bob spent time building fences, decks, puttering, tinkering, mowing the lawn, fixing yard machines and old vehicles. He loved travel, having visited Canada coast to coast, as well as England several times. In retirement, he always looked forward to trips down south with his friends to Texas and Arizona, played slo-pitch and spent winters wood working.

Embracing the simple life, Bob loved having a beer, being outdoors, listening to music, watching baseball and hockey (including Maya and Sam’s games). He was always good-natured, very patient and easy-going. Bob never liked the idea of aging, had a sarcastic, quirky sense of humour, and liked to live life by his own rules. A sentimental and nostalgic man, Bob often reminisced about years gone by, keeping his audience captivated with entertaining anecdotes and jokes thrown in here and there.

Bob’s family kindly requests that his friends and family take a few moments to honour his memory by sharing stories, memories, photos and condolences in the comment section of his tribute page.

There will be no service at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Mood Disorders Association of MB, or a charity of your choice.

Dear Dear Brother

It's been 3 years now and I'm sorry it has taken me so long to write to you! I miss your smiling face and the tea and beers we had together in the backyard on McMeans. Your brotherly wisdom when i didn't know what to do and your help with my cars and trailers, I knew I could

always come to you! Your corny jokes and sharing ideas of little inventions and sewing projects too.

I think of you all the time and miss you so!

As I sit here on my deck having a couple beer I can't stop thinking of you and wishing you were here!

I only hope you are free of all the worldly woes and feelings, flying up there with Mike and I pray that we will meet again one day!

Love always your little sister!

Our deepest condolences to Bev, Mandy and family for their loss. We know Bob will be sadly missed by his family and anyone fortunate to have met him. Although we only met Bob on a few occasions, we can say with absolute sincerity that he was a gentleman and had a sharp wit and great sense of humour. May memories of him remain strong, clear and close to your heart.

Bev to you and your family. My deepest condolences. I met Bob at the Transcona Legion Branch No 7 where he used to come on Wednesday evenings to watch the hockey games and meet up with his buddies for a few drinks. The branch darts league played on that night and we all got to know the "baseball boys". Bob had a special sense of humour and was friendly to all He will certainly be missed by all>

McMeans Ave was a special street to grow up on - and Mr. Peters certainly contributed to that. My memories of him are of enjoying the simple things in our everyday life.  I remember him and my dad attending Jets games back in the 80’s. I learned all about good-spirited rivalry in sports the day they made a “Let’s Go Jets! The Flames Can’t Light a Candle” poster to take to the Calgary Flames game. They were pretty proud of their clever creation lol. Whenever I was at the Peters home playing with Mike, Bob was always nearby working on the truck or something in the yard. And when there was a McMeans Ave event, he was there bringing the laughter.  As an adult, I would look forward to walking past the house and seeing Bob and Bev sitting on the front step, or Bob working in the back yard. He always made time to stop and chat, and took interest in how we were doing. I will always remember his laid back caring nature, big smile & laugh. He will definitely be missed ❤

Rest In Peace Bob and condolences to Bev, the family and all who loved him. I worked with Bob for many years and we started working at the post office around the same time. Bob didn’t have a pretentious bone in his body and was the kind of person who could always put a smile on your face.  The world is missing a good and decent person with Bob’s passing

Dear Bev, l find it so hard to believe that Bob is no longer with us. Bob and I got on so well, we had a very similar sense of humour and outlook on life. I remder the last time I was in Winnipeg two years ago,  Bob took me to the Legion for lunch and to play Darts , we spent the time reminiscing and putting the world to rights, whenever I came to Canada I always looked forward to meeting up with Bob again. Bev my thoughts and deepest sympathies are with you and the family.  Cousin  Chris (England).

A few memories of our Uncle Bob to share are: the sound of his ATV as he rode up to the deck at the farm to share a morning coffee, a warm greeting, a smile and his straw hat on! Summer days spent doing chores, such as lawn mowing, fixing a small engine or getting the old Ford truck ready for a dump run,  then having a beer as all enjoyed conversations under the trees in the afternoon shade, the best part of the day! His ability to have an ear to listen, words of wisdom or a joke to share, he was a big part of the Brewster Clan..The farm and our family will not be the same without Bobby-Bear. We love you, we think of you and Mike often, you both will remain in our hearts for always, Rhonda, Terry, Shane & Austin, (Rex, too!!)

I’m so lucky to have spent so much time at the Peter’s home growing up. I know the words to ‘Bud the Spud’ and many Carly Simon songs thanks to Bob. He was kind, funny, a great storyteller and neighbour. He will be missed.❤
