PETER PFEIFFER

August 31, 1961 – July 2, 2020

With great sadness, we announce that Peter passed away on July 2, 2020 at the age of 58 years.

Peter is predeceased by his grandparents Gustav & Elfriede Pfeiffer and Walter & Helene Koch; as well as uncles and aunts Helmut & Irma Pfeiffer and Wolfgang and Renate Koch. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his mother Ingrid Helene Pfeiffer; sister Bettina Pfeiffer (Norman Wieser); cousins in Canada and Germany, as well as many long-time friends.

Peter was born in Winnipeg on August 31, 1961. He grew up in Elmwood, attending George V School and then Elmwood High School.

Peter was a happy-go-lucky kid. He did not like school too much; came home after the second week and announced that he was quitting because he did not have enough time to play. As a child he was always playing outside, either in the yard with his dinky toys & tonka trucks, or playing impromptu made-up games like line-tag, dodge ball, cops & robbers or baseball with the neighbourhood kids. Once Peter learned to ride a bike, he was often gone for hours on his trusty steed. We would sometimes go for a treat, taking the back-roads to McDonalds on Nairn. Other times we would venture as far as Valley Gardens on our bikes (to watch the new houses being built). I always trusted that Peter would find the way home. Peter loved to go to movies, especially action movies like Live and Let Die. Mom remembers that once (at age 11 & 9), we went to a movie at the Park Theatre. We missed the bus and it was a Sunday, so we decided to walk to Eatons because Peter was confident that he knew the way. There was no bus coming, so we walked all the way home to find a very worried Mom. Peter began his mechanics hobby as a child, taking bikes apart and putting them back together to fix them and make them better.

His best friend in high school was Roger Hodkinson, who sadly pre-deceased him in 1982. Pete often accompanied Roger to his family farm near Libau. There he met his uncle Edward Schwark, who was more like a big brother to the boys. They became life-long friends. He also met and became friends with many of the family friends and neighbours, including Don Froehlich, Adrian Kowalik, and Leon Schellenberg.

After school, he worked for a few years at Red River Co-op. He worked with and became friends with Brian Chegus and Cory Torch. They recently re-connected and spent time together while Brian was battling cancer. Pete and Cory then kept in touch.

After Red River Co-op, Peter moved on to work at Princess Auto- Shur-Lift Ind. He was employed at Princess Auto for nearly 30 years until the Manufacturing Division was closed. He filled various positions in Manufacturing and Shipping & Receiving. Most recently, he was employed at Regional Products Ltd. as a delivery driver.

Pete had one big passion – cars. He was a self-taught mechanic, learning from friends or on-line videos. He was always fixing old cars and helping anyone who asked for his help. He spent many hours at Bucks Auto, becoming friends with Kevin and Darrel. There, he also met and became friends with many others who shared the same passion.

Other long-time friends include William & Lydia McCombs and Benny & Rebecca. Pete spent a lot of time enjoying their friendship and company.

Cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. A small gathering for family and close friends is being planned for a later date.

Peter’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. They also encourage the sharing of photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

My condolences to anyone who ever met Pete. I'm brian chegus daughter. When they reconnected and my dad was battling cancer Pete helped out so much and took my dad to his Apts and helped with his daily needs. I am forever thankful for the kind soul that he was. my deepest condolences to Peter's family.  I have known Peter for a very long time.  Peter and I  shared a passion for cars. Whenever he was free, we would meet at the auto pac auction on Wednesdays,  and then go to Buck's Auto looking for parts.  He always helped me look for parts for my vehicles that I bought at auto pac. He will be greatly missed. Don  Froehlich

Pete and me were friends from grade 8 right up to a few years ago we lost contact. Pete, Roger and myself used to go out on our motorcycles and have a good time. Also Pete and myself looked forward to going out to the bars for a good time. You will be missed Peter.

All the memories are good - that says a lot about Pete who was just a stand-up kinda guy.  Shared many a joke, many a laugh.  Condolences to the family and friends.

My condolences to the family.  I am saddened to hear about the passing of Peter.   I attended Elmwood High school with Peter when the family still lived on Herbert.  Reading the obituary and viewing the pictures brought back so many memories.  I remember how proud he was of the brown Charger and then the day he bought the White Monte Carlo..  There were many Wednesday’s spent at the Autopac auctions looking for that gem of a write off car to bid on with Peter and Roger rather than attending classes.    I also remember we  made a few trips to Roger’s uncles farm for parts for the Charger from time to time.  That’s where he taught me how to remove a windshield from a car.  It took him 3 windshields to get one out - but we came home with one!     As time went on we grew up and lost contact but years later we met at a farm auction in the Libau area we talked like we were those high school kids again.  RIP. Peter

I have had the pleasure of knowing Peter for many years. He always had a smile and was friendly and a very good friend. Always had something to say about the many cars he worked on. I hope he is fixing cars in Heaven. So sorry to hear of his passing.

I met Peter through a friend at the coffee shop always a smile and kind words. While making a delivery at Princess Auto Peter came out and I had some car trouble. Peter went under the hood and had it fixed in no time. Miss your smile...R.I.P

I worked with Pete for many years at Princess Auto Manufacturing. I remember his kind hearted ways and engaging smile the most.  You could always count on Pete to help you out if you had car trouble.  He had the magic touch when it came to fixing our car & finding car parts at a good price! Pete cared about people.  He was a real gem.  Our deepest sympathy to Pete's family. He is missed by many.
