Gerald Piasta
GERALD HENRY PIASTA
September 23, 1945 – June 2, 2024
With heavy hearts, we sadly announce Gerry's sudden passing on June 2nd, 2024. Survivors include his wife of 55.5 years, Lorraine (Kitchur); daughter Treena; son Darren; granddaughter Tatjanna; sister Eugenia (Ron Gibson); and brother-in-law Gordon (Darrel) Kitchur.
Gerald was predeceased by his parents, Mike (1999) and Mary Piasta (Kuzenko) (1989); sister Irene Borys (2002); father and mother-in-law, Mac (1981) and Erna (2016) Kitchur; Brothers-in-law, Roland Kitchur (2001) and Paul Borys (1994).
Gerry was born and raised in Rossburn, MB. After high school, he sought employment in Winnipeg. After several years in manufacturing, he joined Corrections Canada. He retired in 2006 after 30 years of service from Stony Mountain Penitentiary.
Gerald's niche in his retirement was renovations. He was in his element when he used any of the numerous tools he had accumulated. When Lorraine suggested updating the house, he was all for it and, in a flash, off to a building center for products and prices. He showed his love for his family by caring for them and completing all the complicated projects. Forever in our hearts, he will remain.
Thank you to the wonderful neighbors and friends, the Winnipeg Fire and Paramedic Service, The Grace Hospital emergency staff, and Ethical Death Care Funeral Home for all the care and support provided during this hard time.
Cremation has taken place, and as per his wishes, no service will be held.
Gerald’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

I worked with Gerry for years at Stony first in squads 5 & 6 and later the minimum unit. He was kind, fair, and supportive and helped me navigate my way over the years through good times and bad. He was a great friend and he will be missed but will live on forever in our hearts. Comdolences to all of his family and loved ones.
