GEORGE RAYMOND CHARLES PILOTE
November 18, 1927 – January 11, 2020
George Raymond Charles Pilote entered into the Grace of God Saturday January 11, 2020, surrounded by his loving family.
Born November 18, 1927 in The Pas Manitoba, Dad enjoyed a colourful and often adventurous life, from a brief foray in trapping in Northern Manitoba to mining in Ontario. Dad’s travels finally led him to a successful 31-year career with the Canadian Armed Forces. A member of the RCEME Corps he proudly served our country including two tours of duty in United Nations Peace Keeping Missions in Egypt and Israel. From Kingston, Ontario to Vancouver, British Columbia; Whitehorse, Yukon; Edmonton, Alberta; Calgary Alberta; Petawawa, Ontario to Winnipeg, Manitoba he left his mark across the globe. His illustrious military career included a Presidency of the PPCLI Association. Dad’s remarkable intelligence and dedication allowed him to work his way up through the ranks to achieve Chief Warrant Officer attached to the 8th Canadian Hussars. After retiring from the military Dad moved on to a new career with Powell Equipment as an Engineering Consultant.
Upon his final retirement Dad enjoyed many hobbies and interests. Included in his extensive library were books ranging from how to play Chess, Medicine, Math, several languages, and Computers to name a few. His passion for History and Astronomy was intense, he studied these subjects voraciously.
Dad was best commemorated by the many family and friends that attended his 90th birthday celebration. Those present honoured his character and influence that affected each of us over his many years. From his proud military heritage, we will never forget the moment he stood and saluted the bagpiper.
Dad was predeceased by his parents Eugene and Agnes; sister Velma; brother Edward; grandson Kevin; and his first wife and mother of his children, Margaret. He is also predeceased by his second, loving wife, Marjorie. He is sadly missed by his dearest friend, Lucille. He will be forever loved by his son Gene (Jude), daughters Debra and Cheryl, and son Steven (Anne). He will always be cherished by his grandchildren Ian, Ryan, Marika (Donovan), Chris, Craig (Molly), Amanda (Kelsey), and Michelle (Dustin); and great-grandchildren Chloe, Renee, Grace, Everley, and Jack. Dad will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
Our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to the entire staff of the St. Boniface Hospital. A special thanks our dearest cousin Bill, and wife Debbie, who came from California to offer prayer and support to dad and our family. We know this comforted dad.
His notable intellect, curiosity and wit have left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew and loved him. He will forever live on in our hearts.
Always Loved | Never Forgotten | Forever Missed
