CARMEN BRÍGIDA ÁLVAREZ PIZARRO ARAYA

October 28, 1941 – May 29, 2026

Carmen Brígida Álvarez Pizarro, born in Punitaqui, Chile, passed away peacefully on May 29, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

She grew up between Ovalle and the countryside of Punitaqui, surrounded by the love and care of her parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. At the age of 16, she met the great love of her life, with whom she embarked on a beautiful journey and eventually built the family she had always dreamed of.

Inspired by her love of reading, writing, sports, folklore, cooking, and her vocation for service, she pursued her studies at Santa Teresa Teachers’ College, becoming a teacher. She practiced her profession with dedication and passion for many years in her native Chile. Her commitment to education and to her students left an indelible mark on all those who had the privilege of knowing her.

In 1985, she immigrated to Canada, where, with courage, hard work, and determination, she remained the pillar of her family as they navigated cultural changes and the challenges of building a new life in their adopted homeland.

As the years passed, she faced difficulties beyond her control. She loved life deeply, but despite the excellent care she received and the unwavering devotion of her family, who cared for her daily, her strength gradually declined.

She entered eternal rest on the 41st anniversary of her arrival in Canada, leaving behind a legacy of perseverance, wisdom, and love that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff of River Park Gardens Personal Care Home, who, with dedication, compassion, and professionalism, provided the highest quality of care until the end of her days. Their support and kindness were a great comfort to our family, and we will always be deeply grateful.

She is lovingly survived by her husband, Manuel Araya Rojas; her daughters, Pamela Araya Álvarez and Paula Araya Álvarez; her grandchildren, Ignacia González Araya and Christian Hidalgo Araya; her sons-in-law, Christian Hidalgo Mazzei and Ricardo González Abrigo; and her siblings, Silvia Álvarez Pizarro and Manuel Álvarez Pizarro.

A celebration of her life will be held at a later date and announced in due course.
