LAJOS (LOUIS) POGRANYI

January 14, 1937 - January 14, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Louis on his 86th birthday at St. Boniface Hospital.

Louis is survived by his wife of 22 years Sophia; three daughters, Teresa (Mark), Audra (Craig), and Leann (Marcel), and their mother Frances; grandchildren, Tristan (Tina), Kirsten (Blair), Che, Randi (Chris), Marcel, and Anika; great grandchildren, Beretta and Emery; brother Steve residing in Hungary; many nieces and nephews; his step-children, Ron (Charlene), Sandy (Dean), Shelly (Brad), and their children.

Louis was born in Hungary and came to Canada in 1956. He was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 728. Back in the day his favourite watering hole was the Nicolette Hotel where he met a great many people and a lifetime of friends. If anyone knew Lou, they would know that he could tell a great story and cook a mean batch of Hungarian Goulash.

His favourite saying was “Everything’s Copacetic”.

In honour of his wishes no service will be held.

Louis' family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

I'm very sad that you are very sad. That's what happens when we love. What peace he is in now and pain free. I hope he is fishing day and night and I hope he dances. It's not goodbye. It's see you later❤ my love to LeAnn Audra Teresa and all your family during this heartbreaking time. Take care of each other and let those who love you take care of you.

Our sincere condolences to the family.  Sadly we never had the chance to meet him but our son, Randi's Christopher, spoke highly of him and said "Grampa Lou" was always good to him.  Earning Christopher's love and  respect is all we needed to take the measure of the man.
