EDMOND POIRIER

Its with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edmond Poirier on March 6, 2022, at Action Marguerite St. Vital at the age of 70 years.

Left to cherish Edmond’s memory is his children, Andrea, Paul (Jacqui), and Ginette (Jean-Pierre); his grand-children Jasmine, Travis, Ethan (Gia), Raechelle, Zachary and Elisabeth; fur grand-children Penny (aka one cent), Lily and Joey. He also leaves behind his brothers, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edmond is predeceased by his parents Omer and Marguerite; daughter Catherine; brother Louis; sister Diane; and many others he loved.

Growing up in Otterburne, MB, he had five brothers and one sister. In a family with so many boys his mom and dad had their hands full with all the mischief they would get into.  Eventually Edmond would start his family and settled in Otterburne.

He started his career working at Manitoba Pool; however, when the plant closed, he would move his family to Winnipeg to find work. He would then work at Pickseed Canada until 2010 and would later retire.

Edmond was known as the strong silent type, that never complained with a great sense of humor and loved to joke around. He would do everything possible to help anyone and was hard working. Edmond loved to tinker around in the garage building and fixing things. When he was younger, he had a passion for drawing. He loved the many fishing and camping trips he took with family. He loved working on puzzles and had a passion for playing pool and gardening, especially tomatoes.

After his daughter learned how to crochet, he become interested in learning. Not only did he learn to crochet he taught himself to crochet intricate delicate table cloths.

He was always thinking of things to do and ways to make sure the kids or grand kids were having fun, whether it was building an ice pond in the yard to skate on or a giant snow hill for everyone to slide down.

Dad loved action movies, the more gruesome the better he’d say. He was a pro at playing Atari specifically Asteroids. Dad is especially known for his addiction to sweets, don’t dare touch his dinosours, all other candy he may have shared with you.

He wasn’t big on hugs and kisses, and I love you, but he was great at getting on the floor and playing whatever you wanted to play. Always happy to teach you the knowledge he had from how to take machinery apart and clean it, to changing a toilet or even show you how to crochet.

He was our gentle giant that was amazing at showing us he loved us. We will miss the many giggles and stealing candy from his candy stash. Most importantly just miss the time spent doing nothing together.

Dad was excited to find out he was going to be a great grandfather and we are saddened he will not get to meet this new addition; we will miss you, Dad.

The family would like to thank the hard-working, caring staff at Action Marguerite for the care provided to dad.

Celebration of Life will take place on March 26, 2022, at 1:30 pm at Rossmere Country Club, 925 Watt Street in the main banquet hall.

A private family interment will take place at a later date.
