Brad Posthumus
BRADLEY “BRAD” ELLIS POSTHUMUS
July 5, 1972 – July 20, 2024
Our hearts are broken with the passing of Bradley Ellis Posthumus, taken much too soon. Brad died at River View Health Centre on Saturday July 20th, 2024, with his wife, Kristine by his side. Brad had just celebrated his 52nd birthday on July 5th.
Brad fought a courageous 18-month battle with glioblastoma up to the end. During the first 12 months, Brad hiked the forests of the Black Hills and the sand dunes of Spruce Woods. He biked to Doctor’s appointments and took daily walks. One month after brain surgery, and being an avid cyclist, Brad was fat biking and ice skating at Riding Mountain National Park. (RMNP) He was a warrior and our hero.
Brad grew up in the country outside Dauphin, Manitoba with RMNP in the background surrounded by saskatoon and choke cherry bushes. As an adult Brad would continue his love for these berries, often making jams and syrups. Brad attended the University of Alberta graduating with a Forestry Degree. Shortly after, Brad decided to attend Red River College and earned an Advanced Diploma in Geographic Information Systems Technology. (GIS) This diploma earned him a job with the Federal Government Agriculture Agrifood Department and for the next 21 years, Brad worked as a GIS analyst creating maps and later as a computer programmer. Brad’s work can be seen on many Federal Government web sites.
Brad met his soul mate, Kristine in the forests of Manitoba. They were working partners, best friends, and became life partners on September 20, 2003, in RMNP. In the 28 years together, Brad and Kristine enjoyed their shared passions of the outdoors, hiking, camping, biking, road trips, music, and football and have passed these interests onto their children, Madison and Cameron. Brad was a quiet, private man but all who knew him loved him. He was kind, caring, and knowledgeable about many things. What he didn’t know, he researched how to do it and attempted it himself. Often with great success, sometimes not. Brad taught himself how to play the guitar, and would often play and sing to the children at bedtime. He was also very handy around the house, something Kristine appreciated. Brad liked to work with wood and built furniture for his family. They will cherish these pieces left behind. Brad was very much a family man and everything he did was for his wife and children. His warm hugs, goofiness, and dry wit sense of humor will be missed by all.
Besides his wife and children, Brad leaves behind his brother Doug (Gina, Nick & Connor); and David (Ming & Michelle); as well as the extended family he married into who welcomed him, loved him, and called him son, brother, nephew, cousin, and uncle. Brad is predeceased by his mother, Nelda Harder who will care for him in death as she did in life with unconditional love.
The family would like to thank the many compassionate and caring staff at the River View Health Centre who took such good care of both Brad and Kristine during the 18 days Brad spent there. If friends and family so desire, a donation in Brad’s memory can be made to Cancer Care Manitoba.
“A limb has fallen from the family tree
that says grieve not for me….
Remember the best times,
the laughter, the song.
The good life I lived when I was strong.”
Brad’s final resting place will be amongst the trees at the South Whiteshell Cemetery with a private gathering of family and friends.
Brad’s family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by watching the photo-biography above. Please, also consider sharing your own photos, memories, and stories by making use of the comment section on this page.

I just learned of Brad's Passing. My condolences go out to Kristine, Madison and Cameron.. Brad was such a kind and thoughtful person. It was a pleasure talking to him. In his kindness he would shovel my parking pad and sidewalk in the winter because he knew it was hard for me. Bless you Brad..

I never met Brad in person but felt compelled to write something. I interacted with Brad professionally over email and chat over the past few years. He was always quick and courteous, and showed enthusiasm for my mapping projects, which was a welcome encouragement as I was developing my skills and quite inexperienced. My condolences to the family and friends.

To my dear sister-in-law Lisa and Brad's entire family: I am so sorry to hear about this terrible loss for you. This video tribute brought me to tears and the obituary tells me what an inspirational human being he was. I am thinking of you all as you go through this very difficult time.

It is with a heavy heart that I write. I was a work colleague of Brad's for many years at AAFC-Geomatics. I knew of him when he was in Regina and met him there on one of my trips for a meeting. He then moved to the Winnipeg office. where we did some work together. He was a very kind soul and a great GIS person. He is missed.

Brad and Kristine and family have been our neighbours for many years, and i can tell you Brad was an awesome person, and quality individual. He was always one to pay you a compliment and always willing to lend a hand, in particular to an elderly couple across the back lane. He was very dedicated to his family, and it was not uncommon for the family to be out walking, biking, or just out at their backyard gazebo enjoying casual conversation and laughs together. Brad was an avid cyclist and when not cycling was always busying himself with something in the yard, or a project in his garage. We often conversed while on our ladders cleaning gutters, while shoveling walks, breaking up ice, or while he was shooting baskets in the alley. He was always interested in how the family was doing and, being a Saskatchewan Roughrider fan, we would rib each other when their team wasnt doing particularly well! Brad was a good, kind, quality individual and will be sorely missed. Condolences to Kristine and Cameron and Madison. RIP Brad.

Brad will be missed so much. The loss of Brad in life is crushing. He was a good person, kind, thoughtful, fair and honest, and so funny. I was amazed by the things he could do and his many talents, for example his elaborate birthday celebrations for Kris and his kids. The time and effort he put into those events showed how big his love was for them. I miss hearing his voice saying my sister's name. There is a hole in our family without Brad's presence. We will cherish him forever.

Such a loss And not many words are in my vocabulary to honour an Exemplary person lost far too soon. Most of my memories are of him doing something for your family... cooking/grilling, fixing, and listening to Kristine's stories of Brad's life envying his motivation to stay fit. I also remember he played critical role in mapping for food security when COVID was taking over the economy world. I'm sure with him being private and humble we'll never fully understand his contributions to Canadians. RIP Brad.
