FRIEDA POTEMPA

July 18, 1933 – November 29, 2023

With heavy hearts, we announce that Frieda Potempa passed away on November 29, 2023 in Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Potempa.

Frieda was born, raised and educated in Winnipeg. In her early years, she was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Air Force Reserve. Her career began as a dental assistant but returned to serve the Air Force, this time providing civilian secretarial assistance at the 17 Wing Base Air Base. She enjoyed many years there until her retirement.

Frieda and Joe were long time active members of the German Club on Charles & Flora, spending many hours volunteering and socializing. Frieda was often referred to as our German Auntie. They also enjoyed many trips to Germany to visit with Joe's family. After Joe's passing, Frieda bought a trailer at Camp Neuschtadt and spent many summers in the "Wilds" near Gimli.

Blessed with a keen wit, a marvelous sense of humour and a truly generous spirit, Frieda was a welcome guest at any gathering. Always up for a good time and a laugh, she will be remembered and missed by her surviving family, cousin Pat & Helmut Augst, nieces Dianne Patton, Ingrid Enns, Terry Steffan, Bobbie Enns, Bev Stanley and nephews David Ediger, John Enns, Mark Olfert, Dan Braun and Rick Braun. She will also be missed by numerous friends.

So sorry to read about our dear Tante Frieda. My Moms (Herta Seidemann) best friend for many years. Such great times, memories and laughs at Camp Neuschtadt. She always was smiling and laughing and welcomed everyone with open arms. May she rest in peace.

Sorry to hear about Frieda. She and Joe were fixtures at any Karneval function at the German Society. She was an absolutely lovely person.
