WAYNE POTT

May 31, 1952 - May 26, 2023

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Francis Pott at the age of 70 following a brief but brave battle with cancer. After conquering cancer in 1988, Wayne sadly succumbed to it on May 26th, 2023.

Wayne is survived and will be dearly missed by wife of 53 years, Simonne, daughter Beverley (Kevin) son Derek (Joy), 4 grandsons, Troy, Dayne, Nik & Paul, sister In-law Lorna, and nephew Jason. He was predeceased by his parents Ed and Maria, and brother Brian.

Born May 31st, 1952 in Vita MB, Wayne grew up in Woodmore, MB and learnt the value of honest, hard work by working on the family farm until 1968. At the age of 16 he moved to Winnipeg and applied his hard work ethic to his first, and only career in the trucking industry. Wayne began working as a dock hand at Westway Forwarding but it didn’t take long, and Wayne quickly realized his dream of driving truck and eventually becoming an owner/operator of his own small trucking company.

Wayne worked as hard personally as he did professionally and took pride in ensuring his friends and family always had a helping hand, ear to talk to, or a shoulder to cry on. Wayne was a hands-on dad, husband and friend who put family and friends before himself and his can-do/get the job done attitude that was inspiring to everyone around him. He gave all and expected nothing in return.

Wayne enjoyed the outdoors. This included working outside and playing outside, whether it was camping trips and fishing with his friends and family, helping build a fence or deck, or just relaxing with a nice cold beer, he was happy to be outside and living life to its fullest.

Wayne loved sports. He played hockey and baseball in his youth, and he bowled and he curled as he aged, but what Wayne loved the most about sports in his later days was watching his grandsons play. Wayne would support “his boys” through rain and shine each spring and fall watching soccer and football, and then weather frigid temperatures to watch hockey no matter the time or location all winter.

His grandsons completed him, bursting with pride at all their accomplishments in not only sports and school events, but music as well. Anyone who knew Wayne also knew he loved country music, old, sad country music, but he would routinely brave some of the most unique music venues in Winnipeg to watch his boys play rock and roll, fast, angry rock and roll. Wayne would do it with a huge smile. He was a very proud grandpa and never missed an opportunity watch, listen, hang out, or to brag about “his boys”.

The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude for the compassion and care from the doctors, nurses and staff at Riverview Health Centre who cared for Wayne in his final days.

Goodbye to our Husband, Father and Grandpa, the impact you have made in all of our lives cannot be put into words nor repaid in a thousand lifetimes. We love you, will cherish your memory and will miss you everyday, and we will “see you when we see you”.

Immediate cremation has taken place. In lieu of a celebration of life, the family has chosen a private tribute to say goodbye to greatest man they have ever known, an inspiration to his Grandsons, Derek’s mentor, Bev’s rock and the absolute love of Simonne’s life.

Some broken hearts never mend

Some memories never end

Our tears will never dry

Our love for you will never die.

Wayne's family kindly requests that all of his friends and relatives take a few minutes to honour his memory by sharing photos, memories, and stories, using the comment section on this page.

Simonne, Bev and Derek, I'm so sorry for your loss.  All of my memories of "Uncle" Wayne involve his mischievous grin - it never seemed to leave his face!  Particularly when he was driving the boat doing donuts at the lake - trying to throw you off the tube.  I'm thankful that with our families being so close, he was a consistent presence growing up.  Thinking of you all during this time.

My uncle was an amazing person who will be greatly missed. It was very easy to see why he was my dad’s best friend. They always seemed to enjoy each others company and I learned so much from the both of them. Wayne was always there, any time we needed him.  Always going above and beyond, even when he wasn’t asked. When my dad passed, we became even closer and I’ll always be extremely grateful for everything he meant and has done for my family. I’ll truly cherish all of those memories. He will be deeply missed and loved forever.

Such a beautiful tribute to a wonderful man. So sorry for your loss Simonne, Bev, Derek and your families. I worked with Simonne for 20 years and had many a lunch with Simonne and Wayne. Wayne was always so friendly and positive and they had such a wonderful bond. Simonne, you have all your wonderful memories of the times you spent together to keep him in your heart forever. He will not be forgotten.

What a beautifully written tribute to Wayne. Whenever I think of Wayne, I remember the times growing up how he and Simonne and the kids would come out to the farm for a visit. I have just one picture from those days to share. These are fond memories. Sending prayers of comfort to Simonne and his  family.❤

Many fond memories growing up in Woodmore with cousin Wayne.    Shared a lot of laughs especially when on horseback or skiing behind horses.

A photo of me (Dayne) and grandpa playing a round of crib. A game we loved playing together. He’d coincidentally have “bad cards” every game we’d play together. Sureeeeeee you did grandpa. Love you, and miss ya tons.
