MARCEL HENRY POUTEAU

Peacefully on Tuesday August 18, 2026, Marcel Pouteau passed away at the Carberry Plains Health Centre, Carberry Manitoba at the age of 81 years. 

Marcel is lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 Years, Clemence (Mickey) Pouteau, his children Lisa & Darryl Klassen of Kindersley, Saskatchewan and Debbie Pouteau and Joel Dennome and grandson Daxton of Carberry, Manitoba. 

Marcel was born in the old stone farmhouse on the family farm located at 31-7-10 in Holland Manitoba on October 18, 1944. He was the second child of Aime and Margaret (nee Mestdagh) Pouteau and a little brother for sister Yvonne. Marcel attended Centreville country school down the road from the farm and later attended high school in Holland until grade 11 before leaving school to farm full time. Farming was more than Marcel’s livelihood; it was the life he knew and loved. He spent more than 50 years working the land near Holland, building a life through hard work, determination and an ability to turn his hand to almost anything that needed doing.  

On May 1, 1965, Marcel married Clemence (Mickey) beginning a marriage that would span 61 years. Together they raised their two daughters Lisa and Debbie and built their life on the farm. Marcel was a capable and resourceful man who was never afraid of a challenge or a new project. In 1981, with some help from local trades, Marcel built a new home on the farm for his family.  Marcel did a lot of the work himself, a lasting example of his determination, practical skill and pride.  The new house and the large dining room table hosted family suppers every Sunday.  Marcel and Mickey hosted family dinners pretty much every Sunday, followed by a Sunday evening fishing trips with Grandma, Yvonne and Norman and the Mestdagh boys.  During the winter, Marcel was an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed riding with friends and family. He also had a passion for mechanics and spend winters taking on snowmobile repair work in his small, heated garage on the farm.  

Marcel and Mickey enjoyed many trips with family and friends. In their earlier years of marriage they were avid bikers, taking trips to South Dakota, trips with “The Vegas Crew” were always memorable and still talked about today as well as trips to Disney Land in California with the girls, a beautiful family wedding in Texas, and Victoria were some of the best times. 

In 1997 Marcel rented the farm to Marginet Farms. Marcel went to work for Metcalfe’s garage in Treherne. Marcel and Mickey sold the farm in 1999 and moved to Portage la Prairie where he worked at ICMS. In 2020 they moved to Carberry, Manitoba to be closer to daughter Debbie. 

Marcel loved animals, music, golfing and trips to Saskatchewan to visit the farm.  He loved spending time with family and friends.  Above all else, his greatest joy was his family, and he especially treasured the time he spent with grandson Daxton.

Marcel’s life was on rooted in family, the land and the quiet satisfaction of a job well done. From the old stone farmhouse where his story began to the farm he worked for more than half a century to the home he built with his own hands, he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, perseverance and devotion to those he loved.  

The family would like to send a special thank you to the nursing staff at the Carberry Plains Hospital for the compassionate care Dad received during his brief stay. Thank you. 

Internment will take place a later date at St. John Berchamans Parish Catholic Cemetery in Holland, Manitoba.
