CYNTHIA POWELL
July 31, 1945 – March 31, 2026
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of Cynthia Powell on March 31, 2026. Cynthia passed at home, peacefully with her loved ones by her side.
Cynthia was predeceased by parents, Jack and Gwendoline Powell; brother Jack and sister-in-law Joan. She is survived by her son Erick Pelletier, daughter Sylvie Pelletier; and grandchildren, Devlin and Kezra (Joel) Klassen; nephews, David Powell and Robert Powell (Cheryl) of Ontario; as well as many cousins.
Cynthia was born in Winnipeg in 1945 and lived in the Northend until the great flood. After that, the family moved to Jackson Avenue in Fort Garry, where she spent the majority of her childhood and teen years. After attending Kelvin Highschool, Cynthia went on to graduate from the school of nursing at St. Boniface Hospital in 1967. Later in life, she returned to school and received her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of Manitoba.
Most of her professional Nursing career was spent at St. Boniface Hospital in the Psychiatry Department. Fist in in-patient units, then the last 10 years of her career in the Emergency department.
Family, friends, and neighbours were especially important to Cynthia; she loved gatherings with her family, especially picnics in the park as well as all the time she spent with her grandchildren. She also loved attending music and social events with friends. She had a life full of loves and activities like tango dancing, tennis, Taiko Drumming, yoga, symphonies, ballets, gardening, birds, and reading.
Cynthia loved life!
The family would like to thank her wonderful friends and neighbours for all the good times they shared with her.
The family would also like to thank Dr. Kauffman and his team at Health Sciences Centre, the wonderful staff at the Palliative Care Program and the kind and loving care from the staff from Nurse Next Door.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life with take place at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22nd at the Unitarian Church at 603 Wellington Crescent.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Cynthia’s honour to any of the charities she loved to support like PBS, Main Street Project or the David Suzuki Foundation.

My condolences go out to Cynthia's family. She was such a sweet lady. We first met Cynthia when we volunteered at PAL/Take 5 program. She will be missed by all of us at PAL who had the privilege of knowing her. May you rest in peace Cynthia.

I'm sad to know of Cynthia's passing. We were very close friends for 50 years. We met a colleagues in mental health nursing at St Boniface Hospital, & became friends as single parents w pre-teen children. We shared a deep joy in listening to live music, & both attended the Winnipeg Folk Festival w our kids every summer for a great many years. We loved cottage time at the lake in both summer & winter. We shared a delight in laughing about the off-beat things in life. We experienced many of those when we travelled to Jamaica & Mexico!
After retirement, we shared outdoor jazz concerts in Assiniboine Park, & both attended Argentine Tango lessons & socials. In later years we both experienced mobility problems that decreased our frequency of meeting. We both missed those fun times, but continued to care & offer support & laughs even when we couldn't meet. Farewell my dear friend. I'm missing your presence in my world after all these many years of having u here. I'm
remembering you with much love & appreciation for the wonderful friend u always were.
My loving condolences to your fevoted family, Erick & Sylvie, & grandkids Devlin & Kezra, & Cousin Janice, & your other neighbours & friends.
Love
Eleanor Adaskin
